Inspire, Spring 1998

From the Director's Chair edarville College is in the business of training committed Christians to be competent professionals." That phrase has probably been used in more of our College publications than any other. It's an inspiring thought, but what does it really mean? Each of our disciplines stresses the importance ofa thorough academic preparation as well as a strong spiritual foundation. As Lew Gibbs, director ofcareer services, states, "It's important that we understand the God-given role we have been assigned to best use our skills, interests, gifts, and talents to advance the Kingdom;to be salt and light where there isn't any;to have our lives read as a living Gospel before men;to witness for Christ, because that's the reason He has given us those skills and interests in the first place— to be effective witnesses for Christ in the global workplace." As alumni, we are all in the position of pointing those with whom we work to our Savior. When we exhibit a good work ethic,a godly character, and an excellent knowledge of our area of responsibility, others can't help but see a difference. It's when all these things come together that it is truly NOT business as usual. This issue ofInspire highlights the Cedarville College Department of Business Administration as well as alumni who have found that the business world is the best place for them to advance the Kingdom.Whether you work at home,in the classroom, at church,or elsewhere,I hope that you will be challenged to do the same in your workplace.
