A News Publication for Cedarville College Alumni Winter 1992 The Greatest Gift by Dr.Harold(P.G.)Green Ir remember my first train set, my first two-wheel bike, my first flying model, my first train ride. All of these gifts were great. However,a collie dog I named Pal was the greatest gift of my childhood, my constant companion. But tragedy struck! I found my Pal dead at the basement door—poisoned by someone who wanted a neighbor's mean dog killed. My greatest gift gone! I but him at the back of our lot with only pleasant memories of a faithful friend to keep throughout my boyhood days. . It was several months later that I realized the need for a Savior and received Christ into my life. I was ten years of age. I did not understand the total impact of God's greatest gift then, but what a gift God's Son was to me! He, too, died, but it was for me He suffered on the cross. He,too, was buried but, praise the Lord. He arose from the dead to be my faithful friend forever. The price for my sin was paid in full. Now, many years later, I still do not fully comprehend the greatness of the gift God has given in His Son, my Savior. The Apostle Paul, writing to the Corinthian Church. was not describing their gift to him but a gift given by God that goes beyond human description. Thus, we arc speech's, without words; not because of surprise but because there are no words in our vocabulary to adequately describe this greatest gift, God's gift to us, Jesus Christ our Savior. With Paul we say,"thanks be to God for His indescribable rift!"
