Bridge of Blood

We Rest On Thee ( Finlandia ) We rest on Thee, Our Shield and Our Defender! We go not forth alone against the foe, Strong in Thy strength, safe in Thy keeping tender We rest on Thee, and in Thy name we go. We rest on Thee, Our shield and Our Defender! This is the battle, Thine shall be the praise. When passing thro’ the gates of pearly splendor, Victors, we rest on Thee thro’ endless days. To our audience: This song was sung by Jim Elliot, Nate Saint, Ed McCully, Pete Fleming, and Roger Youderian during their devotions the morning of January 3, 1956. They had a peaceful and gratifying contact with three Auca members on January 6, 1956, but two days later a group of about 10 Aucas slew the five missionaries. There have been many books written about this historic event: the first and perhaps most important being Elisabeth Elliot’s Through Gates of Splendor . To commemorate the 50th anniversary of the deaths of these men, a documentary film titled Beyond the Gates of Splendor was recently released. The End of the Spear , a feature film, is scheduled for theatre release on January 20, 2006. There are few greater examples of the power of God to transform lives than in the story of the Aucas. While the Aucas were once strangers to the grace of God, today there is a strong church among the Waudoni (the correct name for this tribe). The sacrifice and dedication of these five missionary couples changed the world. On behalf of the cast, thank you for attending our production. It is our prayer that the same God who ruled the hearts and lives of these five couples is also ruling your heart. Sincerely yours, David H. Robey
