This course will cover clinical year policies, processes, and expectations as well as reinforce your foundation of medical knowledge, interpersonal skills, clinical skills, and clinical reasoning. With the goal of equipping you for a successful clinical year, this valuable course content focuses on patient care in the emergency and surgical settings, effective patient communication strategies in challenging situations, and skilled documentation and oral presentations. You will practice and further develop your clinical skills through participation in workshops, labs, advanced cardiac life support training, and standardized patient encounters. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PA program. Successful completion of preceding courses in PA program. MPAS-6410 Master's Seminar I 4 hours First in a three-course series that prepares students for the transition to practicing PA by covering a wide range of current and trending clinical practice and public health topics, with an emphasis on providing evidence-based care. You will develop skills important to professional practice through participation in seminars, workshops, small group activities, and oral presentations. Throughout the series, you will build a Professional Portfolio that demonstrates your education, training, and scholarly activity. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PA program. Family Medicine provides care to patients across the lifespan and emphasizes disease prevention and patient empowerment through education and counseling. Family Medicine clinicians also diagnose and manage acute and chronic diseases and conditions in the outpatient setting. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PA program. The emphasis of Internal Medicine is to provide comprehensive and ongoing medical care to adult and elderly patients with acute and chronic diseases and conditions. The emphasis of this rotation will be both the management of gynecologic diseases and conditions and the provision of prenatal care. You will also apply and practice incorporating preventative care to include health promotion, disease prevention, patient education, and counseling specific to the needs of women patients. The Pediatrics rotation is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of providing medical care for the infant, child, and adolescent with an emphasis on preventative care and patient education/counseling for both the patient and their parent/caregiver. Under supervision of the preceptor, you will also assess, diagnosis, and manage acute and chronic diseases and conditions in pediatric patients. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PA program. The Surgery rotation is designed to introduce you to various surgically manageable disease processes seen in adult patients. You will engage in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of the patient and work as a member of a surgical team. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PA program.
