2023–24 Graduate Academic Catalog Page 67 School of Nursing Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Doctor of Nursing Practice Program Purpose Statement/Mission The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program at Cedarville University prepares the graduate nurse for advanced nursing practice. DNP programs prepare nurse leaders at the highest level of nursing practice to improve patient outcomes and translate research into practice. Core Goals The DNP program at Cedarville University prepares nursing scholars to improve population health outcomes by: • Using nursing as a ministry for Jesus Christ. • Leading and collaborating in complex healthcare environments. • Translating and applying evidence to clinical decision-making. • Leading quality improvement initiatives. • Advocating to improve population health outcomes. Accreditation The School of Nursing’s programs are authorized by the Ohio Department of Higher Education and accredited by the Higher Learning Commission. The baccalaureate degree program in nursing and master’s degree program in nursing at Cedarville University are accredited by the Commission on Collegiate Nursing Education (http://www.ccneaccreditation.org). Doctor of Nursing Practice Pathways The Doctor of Nursing Practice (DNP) program offers the following pathways: BSN Entry to DNP • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner • Family Nurse Practitioner • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Primary Care • Nursing Leadership in Healthcare Improvement MSN Entry to DNP: Post-Graduate MSN Entry to DNP: Post-Graduate: Nurse Practitioner • Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner • Family Nurse Practitioner • Pediatric Nurse Practitioner - Primary Care Tracks Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner track prepares advance practice nursing students with biblical, theoretical, scientific, and technical foundations required in the care of adult-gerontologic patients in an acute care nurse practitioner role. Students will learn and apply health promotion, assessment, diagnosis, and evidence-based management of patients with acute, critical, and/or complex illnesses or injury. Students will develop knowledge and skills in complex monitoring, pharmacological therapies. Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) The Family Nurse Practitioner track prepares nurses to provide primary care across the lifespan. This advanced practice specialty includes assessment, diagnosis, management and treatment of common acute and chronic health problems, health promotion, client and family education, and use of evidence-based practice for meeting the needs for primary care and prevention. Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Primary Care (PNP) The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Primary Care track prepares nurses to provide primary care for children from birth through age 21. This advanced practice specialty includes assessment, diagnosis, management, and treatment of common acute and chronic health problems, health promotion, client and family education, and use of evidence-based practice for meeting the needs for pediatric primary care and prevention. Nursing Leadership in Healthcare Improvement (NLHI) The Nursing Leadership in Healthcare Improvement track equips nurses with advanced knowledge in quality and safety, organizational behavior, strategic decision-making, and evidencebased practice. Graduates are prepared with expertise and skills to effectively lead within a healthcare environment. Program Delivery The DNP program is designed to be flexible. All DNP courses are offered in an online format. The Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner track has additional on-campus experiences for clinical orientation, NSG-6600 Advanced Care Concepts and Practice I, NSG6610 Advanced Care Concepts and Practice II, and NSG-6620 Advanced Care Concepts and Practice III. The Family Nurse Practitioner track has additional on-campus experiences for clinical orientation, NSG-6310 Advanced Concepts and Practice in the Care of Adults, NSG-6315 Advanced Concepts and Practice in the Care of Older Adults/NSG-6320 Advanced Concepts and Practice in the Care of Women, and NSG-6325 Advanced Concepts and Practice in the Care of Children. The Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Primary Care track has additional on-campus experiences for clinical orientation, NSG6800 Advanced Concepts and Practice in Pediatric Primary Care, NSG-6820 Advanced Concepts and Practice in Pediatric Health Promotion, and NSG-6830 Advanced Concepts and Practice in Pediatric Disease Management. Graduate online course content will be available for student access the weekend prior to the start of the course. Certification Graduates of the Adult-Gerontology Acute Care Nurse Practitioner (AGACNP) track are qualified to seek national certification through the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), or American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN). Graduates of the Family Nurse Practitioner (FNP) track are qualified to seek national certification through the American Association of Nurse Practitioners Certification Board (AANPCB) or American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC). Graduates of the Nursing Leadership in Healthcare Improvement (NLHI) track meet the education requirements to seek Certification in Executive Nursing Practice (CENP) through the American Organization for Nursing Leadership Credentialing Center (ADNL-CC). Graduates of the Pediatric Nurse Practitioner – Primary Care (PNP) track are qualified to seek national certification through the Pediatric Nursing Certification Board (PNCB). Admission Procedure for DNP Degree Applicants should follow specific admission criteria found in the Admissions section of the Graduate Academic Catalog. The School of Nursing Graduate Admissions, Progression, Retention Committee reviews DNP applications on a rolling basis. There is no published application deadline. Graduate Admissions notifies applicants of the admission decision.
