2024–25 Graduate Academic Catalog Page 117 Graduate-Level Course Descriptions MPAS-6423 – NSG-6050 MPAS-6423 Clinical Rotation in Pediatrics 4 hours After 12 months of intensive study and didactic coursework, you are ready to apply clinical skills, interpersonal communication, medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving to real-life patient assessment, diagnosis, and management through supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) in the 4-week Clinical Rotation in Pediatrics. The Pediatrics rotation is designed to introduce you to the fundamentals of providing medical care for the infant, child, and adolescent with an emphasis on preventative care and patient education/counseling for both the patient and their parent/caregiver. Under supervision of the preceptor, you will also assess, diagnosis, and manage acute and chronic diseases and conditions in pediatric patients. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PA program. Successful completion of preceding courses in PA program. MPAS-6424 Clinical Rotation in Surgery 4 hours After 12 months of intensive study and didactic coursework, you are ready to apply clinical skills, interpersonal communication, medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving to real-life patient assessment, diagnosis, and management through supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) in the 4-week Clinical Rotation in Surgery. The Surgery rotation is designed to introduce you to various surgically manageable disease processes seen in adult patients. You will engage in preoperative, intraoperative, and postoperative care of the patient and work as a member of a surgical team. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PA program. Successful completion of preceding courses in PA program. MPAS-6425 Clinical Rotation in Emergency Medicine 4 hours After 12 months of intensive study and didactic coursework, you are ready to apply clinical skills, interpersonal communication, medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving to real-life patient assessment, diagnosis, and management through supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) in the 4-week Clinical Rotation in Emergency Medicine. The emphasis of Emergency Medicine is to provide rapid and methodical assessment, evaluation, stabilization, and treatment of acute and emergent patient presentations across the lifespan and work as a member of the emergency department team. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PA program. Successful completion of preceding courses in PA program. MPAS-6426 Clinical Rotation in Behavioral Medicine 4 hours After 12 months of intensive study and didactic coursework, you are ready to apply clinical skills, interpersonal communication, medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving to real-life patient assessment, diagnosis, and management through supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) in the four-week Clinical Rotation in Behavioral Medicine. The emphasis of this rotation is to engage you in the care of patients with behavioral or psychiatric conditions or diseases and help to deepen your understanding and appreciation of the role of mental health in patient wellness and disease. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PA program. Successful completion of preceding courses in PA program. MPAS-6427 Clinical Rotation – Elective I 4 hours After 12 months of intensive study and didactic coursework, you are ready to apply clinical skills, interpersonal communication, medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving to real-life patient assessment, diagnosis, and management through supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) in the four-week Clinical Rotation – Elective I. The Elective rotation is designed to give students the opportunity to further their medical practice and patient care interests and skills in a medical discipline of their choice. The emphasis of this rotation is to provide medical or surgical care for emergent, acute, and/or chronic conditions and disease commonly seen in the chosen medical discipline consistent with the role and responsibilities of a PA. Prerequisites: Acceptance into the PA program. Successful completion of preceding courses in PA program. MPAS-6428 Clinical Rotation – Elective II 4 hours After 12 months of intensive study and didactic coursework, you are ready to apply clinical skills, interpersonal communication, medical knowledge, clinical reasoning, and problem-solving to real-life patient assessment, diagnosis, and management through supervised clinical practice experiences (SCPEs) in the four-week Clinical Rotation – Elective II. The Elective rotation is designed to give students the opportunity to further their medical practice and patient care interests and skills in a medical discipline of their choice. The emphasis of this rotation is to provide medical or surgical care for emergent, acute, and/or chronic conditions and disease commonly seen in the chosen medical discipline consistent with the role and responsibilities of a PA. Marketing (MRKT) MRKT-6200 Strategic Marketing Planning 3 hours This course examines how managers from across any business or nonprofit organization are impacted by, and have impact on, the marketing activities of the organization. Strategic planning for marketing will be highlighted throughout the course. Specifically, environmental analysis, market segmentation, and positioning analysis will be examined as the pathway to the ultimate development of strategies in the four key decision areas of marketing: product, pricing, distribution, and integrated marketing communications. The ethical and spiritual implications of various marketing practices will also be discussed. MRKT-6250 Responding to the Marketplace 3 hours This course examines what it means to be a “market driven” organization and how to position an organization to properly hear and respond to the market(s) it serves. Managers must lead in listening to the “voice of the market” in identifying needs and preferences of the market and in building strategies to respond in a relevant way. Strategies for developing an effective communication strategy are emphasized. Prerequisites: MRKT6200 Strategic Marketing Planning. N Nursing (NSG) NSG-6050 3 hours Professional Role Development and Health Care Leadership The focus of this course is to introduce advanced nursing roles and responsibilities within the context of the healthcare delivery system.
