The 2014 Legacy Banquet

This year, we have returned to our roots for inspiration. I have spent much of the last year learning more about the story of Cedarville University. We have a unique gift of men and women who have served at this institution for many years. Murray Murdoch, Senior Professor of History, began his 50th year of service at Cedarville this fall. Lynn Brock, Dean of Library Services, received a 45-year service award, and Pam Johnson, Dean of Undergraduate Studies, was honored for her 40 years of service. Most institutions find it rare to have employees stay 20 years, but Cedarville regularly doubles such a legacy. The faithful careers of such faculty members speak to the rich heritage Cedarville is blessed with, a heritage we have intentionally brought to the forefront as we share our school’s story. For example, Cedarville is returning to the use of “For the Word of God and the Testimony of Jesus Christ” as our tagline. We have also reimplemented the 9:55 button, a tradition begun by Dick Walker, in the form of a coin to challenge parents, partners in ministry, as well as faculty and staff to pray for our chapel services every day at 9:55. We have also implemented a few new items this year. My theme for chapel is “By Faith,” as I preach through Hebrews 11. Our new publicity campaign is “Be Bold: Pursue your Passion. Proclaim Christ.” While new, our focus in chapel and our ad campaign continue to emphasize what Cedarville has always been about, as we call young men and women to bold, faithful service for Christ. Personally and on behalf of the University, Joy and I are thankful for your partnership in ministry and the investment you have made in Cedarville, its students, and our efforts to impact the world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ. Thank you for joining us to celebrate what God has done and is doing through Cedarville. I pray that the Lord will continue to grant you His favor on all you do for His kingdom. By Faith, Thomas and Joy White
