Alumnotes, Fall 2016
A L UMNOT E S Fall 2016 I was absolutely blown away. As I walked through the chapel doors, I was overwhelmed with emotion. The chapel renovation was completed! My sense of awe didn’t come from the new lights — although they look brilliant; it wasn’t the stage — even though it looks magnificent; it was knowing there were hundreds of people who played a part in this beautiful renovation. That took my breath away. This past year, I have been blown away by the generosity of our alumni. Whether they said “yes” to a Phonathon student, sent back a check in response to a mailing, or gave what they could during the Triple Tuesday Challenge, alumni all over the world gave generously to help make this project happen. As I walked into the chapel that day, I was finally able to see the physical evidence of all of that generosity. I could see the individual chairs with their nameplates that represented so many alumni and donors. Many people might think the best part of the renovation is the new technology, carpet and paint, or theatre-style seating, but my absolute favorite part of this renovation are the new places near the front of the chapel designated for wheelchairs. While this may seem like a small thing, it is huge for some of our students. Our students or guests in wheelchairs don’t have to sit in the back aisle; they can now be right up front if they want, worshipping along with the student body. This renovation project didn’t happen because we had one donor give a large gift; this happened because so many of you gave what you could. Now when Cedarville students sit down for chapel, they are not only going to hear messages that will help them grow in their walk with God, but they will have a visible reminder of the many people who support the University, our students, and our mission to stand for the Word of God and the Testimony of Jesus Christ. I am so proud to have the honor to serve such a special group of alumni. Thank you for giving financially. Thank you for volunteering your time planning your reunion, housing our students, or connecting students with jobs. Thank you for proudly representing Cedarville University in your churches, schools, and communities. Most importantly, thank you for continually praying for the University. Please be encouraged that your prayers are felt and provide daily encouragement to this place. Stephanie (Cleek) Carroll ’10 Director of Alumni Relations and Annual Giving P.S.
