Fall/Winter 2012 | Cedarville University Alumni Awards | alumnotes 2012 Alumni Awards Jennifer (Matthews) Anderson ’86 Alumna of theYear Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) expert on al-Qaeda and Osama bin Laden On December 30, 2009, Jennifer was killed by a suicide bomber, along with six other CIA operatives, in Afghanistan. Cedarville is inspired by Jennifer’s love for the Lord and service to our country. Erin (Knowles) Wirsing ’02 Young Alumna of theYear Program manager with Salvation Army, Chicago, Illinois Erin has been working to develop the Salvation Army’s STOP-IT initiative against human trafficking. Cedarville honors Erin for assisting victims as well as raising awareness to the atrocities of human trafficking across the country. Thomas Bockman ’94 Alumni Impact Award Team leader for Capstone Property Services, Barrington, New Jersey A Cedarville student nominated Tom for this award to express appreciation for the special care and concern Tom showed when he was the student’s youth group leader. He wrote, “Tom is the one God used to show His love to me. He had a Christ-focused mind and heart, and I always knew he was praying for me.” Jeff Cook ’81 One Another Mindset Award Associate Professor of Bible and Urban Studies, Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio Dr. Jeff Cook integrates the importance of diversity in the body of Christ into every aspect of his teaching and personal ministry. He has inspired students from majority and minority cultures to develop a “one another mindset” as part of their Christ-centered worldview. Elizabeth Ellen “Libby” (Ross) Shearer ’84 Distinguished Educator Award Instructor of Kinesiology, Cedarville University, Cedarville, Ohio One of her students wrote, “She challenges me to do the work to my best ability. She gets excited about the little (yet big!) ways God is using her and us in the world.” Cedarville honors Libby for inspiring students in her classroom and for her faithfulness to the Kingdom in world missions. Stephen Brown ’67 Distinguished Service Award Technical Service Librarian, Indiana Wesleyan University, Marion, Indiana Stephen was part of Cedarville’s Centennial Library staff from 1968–1996. Cedarville honors him for his continued service to our library, working as a summer volunteer cataloguing books. He also started the Christian Service and Academic Excellence Award in 2006. Chuck McKinney Honorary Alumnus Award Director of Food Service, Pioneer College Caterers, Inc., Cedarville, Ohio For 32 years, Chuck has been providing excellent food service for Cedarville University in a dining hall that bears his name. He is possibly the most recognized Cedarville “personality” on campus and is known for his good humor and responsiveness to students’ input.
