alumnotes | News 1 Kenneth Pierpont ’59 is Pastor of South Litchfield Baptist Church in Litchfield, Michigan. Ken and his wife, Jane, have been in ministry for more than 58 years and celebrated their 62nd wedding anniversary December 24. They have four children and grandchildren in full-time ministry. The Lord has blessed them with 34 grandchildren, 32 great-grandchildren (and two on the way), and 18 grand-in-laws. Mark ’77 and Cindi (Porter) Sigmon ’77 continue to experience God’s grace through Cindi’s battle with cancer and the opportunities to serve God’s global cause. Mark runs Global Impact Services and the West Michigan Friendship Center for refugees. This summer he released his latest resource, “Journey to the Nations,” a practical, concise missions study for anyone. 2 Reid Ashbaucher ’83 is Managing Editor with Northwest Ohio Christian Voice. Northwest Ohio Christian Voice is a growing Christian news agency, reporting Christian news and sharing stories, columns, features, inspirational messages, and video clips in the 19 counties represented in Northwest Ohio. Northwest Ohio Christian Voice is a division of One Christian Voice, LLC, a member of the Evangelical Press Association. 3 Cheryl (Bitterman) Draa ’84 owns Cheryl Draa Interior Designs. She is a residential interior designer specializing in “people in transition.” She has been working in the Atlanta, Georgia, metro area since 1992 and is opening an office in Charlotte, North Carolina, in 2018. Submit your news to cedarville.edu/magazine . 4 Kimberly (Barch) Sand ’90 recently graduated from the University of South Florida with a Doctor of Nursing Practice degree. She has been an Adult Nurse Practitioner for more than 20 years in a variety of settings. She is currently pursuing a path in healthcare policy, where she hopes to make an impact for Christ. Husband Raymond Sand ’90 manages the IT systems of the Home Shopping Network. Ray and Kim reside in Bradenton, Florida, where they have raised their three children, Nate, Peter, and Liv. Laura (Hollander) Sinkonis ’92 wrote an article that was published in the Journal of the American Association of Special Education Professionals . It is called “Alternative Approaches to IEP Conflict: A Review of the Literature.” She currently works in a local public high school teaching special education English and reading. She is in the dissertation phase of her doctorate and hopes to graduate in May 2018. 5 Cindy Hasselbring ’95 began working in February 2016 for Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA), the world’s largest community of pilots, located in Frederick, Maryland. She led AOPA’s High School Aviation Initiative, which works to interest and engage more students in aviation and aerospace. AOPA is currently field testing ninth-grade aviation curriculum in 29 high schools across the country, and this curriculum will be available in fall 2018, at no charge to high schools. Cindy is thankful for God’s leading her to this position after a long career as a math teacher. Daren Houck ’96 was recently installed as Headmaster of Coast Episcopal School in Long Beach, Mississippi, during a special installation ceremony and Eucharist. Previous to his move to the Mississippi Gulf Coast, Daren served as headmaster at two private schools in Vermont for 13 years. 6 Chris Prediger ’97 , wife Renee, and daughter Bethany moved to Niles, Michigan, in October 2017 to serve full time with Life Action Ministries. The family serves at Life Action Camp, where they host men’s and women’s retreats, father/son retreats, and family camps. Abigail Stroven ’98 started working at Gordon College after serving as a missionary in Ecuador for seven years with International Teams. She was recently promoted to the Senior Director of La Vida Center for Outdoor Education and Leadership. 7 Nick Chou ’99 visited the Burj Khalifa, the world’s tallest building, during a current deployment to the Middle East with the Ohio Army National Guard. Chaplain (Major) Chou has served 26 years in the Ohio Guard and works full time in the State Chaplain’s Office. Wife Sarah and their three kids, Tyler (11), Taylor (8), and Lily (4), are serving on the homefront. 8 Jessica (Allen) Stormer ’05 , husband Bobby, and son Robby (2) recently moved from Seattle, Washington, to Panama City, Florida, where Bobby is a superintendent for a commercial construction company and Jessica is a stay-at-home mom. Michael Gumprecht ’07 was named to the 2018 Rising Stars for the State of Georgia list by Super Lawyers. This honor is reserved for lawyers who exhibit excellence in practice. Only 2.5 percent of attorneys in Georgia receive this distinction. Super Lawyers is a rating service of outstanding lawyers from more than 70 practice areas who have attained a high degree of peer recognition and professional achievement. This selection process includes independent research, peer nominations, and peer evaluations. 9 Asheritah (Oana) Ciuciu ’10 released her second book, Unwrapping the Names of Jesus: An Advent Devotional , from Moody Publishers. The book hit the Christian Booksellers Association’s best-sellers list in November 2017. Asheritah guides readers through the four weeks of Advent, with a devotional reflection for each day focused on a different name of Jesus, family activities, challenges, discussion questions, and Scripture. Her first book, Full: Food, Jesus, and the Battle for Satisfaction , was released in January 2017. 10 Joe ’14 and Cori Beth (Hale) Grom ’15 have been appointed as missionaries with Youth Ministry International. YMI exists to reach youth by training the trainers of national youth workers within the people groups of the world. Joe and Cori Beth will move to Malaysia in 2020 to begin teaching youth ministry at Malaysia Baptist Theological Seminary. NEWS Cedarville University | Spring 2018
