Cedarville Alumnotes Fall 2018

A L UMNOT E S Fall 2018 Office of Alumni and Parent Relations Alumni and Parent Relations Executive Director Jeff Beste ’87 Assistant Director of Homecoming and Alumni Programming Dan Case ’16 Assistant Director of Student Philanthropy and Young Alumni Rahul Jacob ’17 Coordinator for Alumni and Parent Engagement Melanie Edris ’17 In the opening chapter of John Piper’s book on missions, Let the Nations Be Glad! , Piper argues, “Missions exists because worship doesn’t.” Piper goes on to say, “Worship, therefore, is the fuel and goal of missions. It’s the goal of missions because in missions we simply aim to bring the nations into white-hot enjoyment of God’s glory.” What a glorious calling for every follower of Christ to be on mission wherever God has placed us and in whatever vocation He has called us to serve and lead so that others might know and enjoy God’s glory. Abraham Kuyper, founder of the Free University of Amsterdam in 1880 and Prime Minister of the Netherlands from 1901–1905, remarked in his inaugural address at the founding of the university, “There is not a square inch in the whole domain of our human existence over which Christ, who is Sovereign over all, does not cry: ‘Mine!’” At Cedarville University, we are committed to training students with a biblical worldview who are equipped and prepared to transform the world for Christ wherever God has placed them and in whatever vocation He has called them to serve. Today, there are tens of thousands of Cedarville University alumni who are serving and leading around the world in every sphere of society, from healthcare to finance, from the pulpit to the halls of justice, from social work to the legislature, from the classroom to the boardroom, and everywhere in between— each on mission to know Christ and make Him known. As followers of Christ, let us be about the glorious work of making much of Christ in whatever sphere God has placed us, so that all the world might know Christ and make Him known and “Let the nations be glad and sing for joy” (Ps. 67:4). For His Glory and our exceeding joy, Rick Melson, Ph.D. Vice President for Advancement V ANTAGE P OINT
