Cedarville Alumnotes Spring 2021
ALUMNOTES Spring 2021 For this issue, we welcome Jeff Reep, Director of Career Services, to Vantage Point. One great way you can stay engaged with Cedarville University is through Career Services. They are available to serve you at any stage of your career! Cedarville University’s Career Services is equipped to serve alumni with all the resources that are provided to current students. Many universities are unable to support alumni, while others charge alumni for their services. The office has a Certified Professional Career Coach as well as a Certified Professional Resume Writer holding two certifications. Here are some of the ways Career Services is able to assist alumni: Resume Review: There is not an opportunity to have a second first impression. Resumes should be specifically tailored to the position for which the candidate is applying and should be strategically organized so that the employer can easily determine whether the individual is a good match for the position. Interview Preparation: It’s important to approach an interview with a strategy that articulates what is important to the employer. Many employers are moving to behavioral interviews, which are based on a belief that an individual’s past behavior is a good predictor of their future behavior. Preparation is key. LinkedIn Assistance: A LinkedIn profile is extremely important in today’s job search. Your profile tells your story and brings your accomplishments to life. LinkedIn has over 200 million job postings and is used by more than 90% of recruiters. Connect with over 16,000 Cedarville alumni on LinkedIn. Job Searching Strategies: It’s important to have a game plan. Just applying for positions and waiting for the phone to ring isn’t a winning strategy. Jobs4Jackets: Jobs4Jackets powered by Handshake ( cedarville.joinhandshake. com) connects students and alumni with employers. You can upload your resume and view and apply to thousands of jobs and internships around the world. Career Assessment: Whether you’re choosing a major, planning ahead for your first career, or thinking about making a career change, MyPlan can help you explore options and bring clarity and insight into figuring out what’s right for you. Studies show that 65–85% of Americans say they are dissatisfied with their job. It’s important to have a Christian worldview of work. 1. Work is your service or worship to the Lord, which was instituted by God as a gift before the fall of man. 2. The purpose of work is to glorify God regardless of task, title, success, or audience. 3. Your diligence and competency in the workplace provides a platform of influence for Christ .
