ACHIEVEMENTS • Accreditation by North Central Asso– ciation of Colleges and Schools extended for 10 years, the longest period the Association grants. • Honors Program's Sociology of Sport study offered winter quarter 1988. Designed to meet the education needs of our ablest and most highly motivated students. • Three Cedarville graduates became college presidents: Dr. Joseph M. Stowell III ('66) at Moody Bible Institute, Dr. Elvin K. Mattison ('73) at Spurgeon Baptist Bible College, Dr. Robert Domokos ('62) at Faith Baptist College, Ankeny, Iowa. • Doctorates completed by Robert G. Parr, Terry L. Phipps, Sharon Eimers, Richard E. Baldwin, Sue H. Baker, and Janet A. Bauer. • Centennial events: Charter Day, January 26, 1987 Convocation attended by 3,000 including delegates from 41 colleges and universities. Performance of Psalm Trilogy, composed by Ovid Young and presented by the 100-voice Centen– nial Choir, the Symphonjc Band, and duo-pianists Nielson and Young. New college history published in 1987: Author Dr. J. Murray Murdoch. Homecoming 1987: Dedication of new Library As the Cedar Grows, historical pageant of Cedarville College, now available on video. • Achievements in athletics from fall 1986 through winter quarter 1988: 1 national championship 3 conference championships 3 district championships GIFTS • Increase of 56.7% in total gifts from 1985-86 to 1986-87. • Total gifts in 1986-87: $3,017,55 $1,437,798 to capital $1,581,479 to remaining funds (Annual Fund, scholarships, etc.) • Over 15,000 gift transactions. • Record amount of alumni giving: $498,068 ($242,099 to Library); a 75.3% increase over 1985-86. • Endowment tripled during the Centen– nial Capital Campaign. Total gifts and commitments: $1,037,220. • Record amount of gifts in December 1987: $898,908. While giving is up, needs are still great. Students continue to pay 90% of their total educational costs. The remaining 10%(during 1987-88, this amounted to $650 for each of our 1800 students) must be realized through gifts to the Annual Fund from individuals, churches, corpora– tions, and foundation s.
