C edarville alumni who majored in music have distinguished themselves as music educators, church musicians, composers, performers, and studio teachers. Since music is an essential part of Christian worship, service, discipleship, and evangelism, the Department of Music also encourages students preparing for other professions to excel in music. Majors and nonmajors alike can receive individual instruction from the 18-member artist faculty who hold highly respected academic and performance degrees. Students also participate in 14 major performing groups and ensembles. Hundreds of students across the spectrum of academic disciplines gain valuable music experience to carry with them into their families, local churches, and other ministries. Facilities in The Ministry Center will support the quality and professionalism of the music program and also will bring together the Department of Music which has been scattered throughout several older buildings around the edge of campus. Dr. Lyle Anderson, professor of music, directs the 60-voice Concert Chorale. + Two major music groups toured in spring 1995. The Brass Choir travelled throughout Ohio, Tennessee, and Kentucky; and the Concert Chorale went to the Czech Republic. + Senior music students give recitals in partial fulfillment of their degree requirements. While these recitals showcase their performance skills, the recital represents a culmination of four years of study and individualized instruction in music. + Cedarville musicians ministered to young people through the Music Showcase Weekend for high s.chool musicians, the High School String Weekend, and the Young People's Concert for elementary school students. + Charles Pagnard, associate professor of music, has been principal trumpet for the Dayton Philharmonic Orchestra for the past 13 years. Professor Pagnard is a long-time member of the popular Carillon Brass ensemble, which released its third recording in 1995.
