2007-2008 Annual Report
The impetus for this dream began before I even came to Cedarville. As I met with Christian school leaders over the years, I realized their desire to offer college courses to their students. I soon discovered that homeschool parents were also looking for ways their students could take college-level courses in high school. These classes would not only challenge students in their studies but also prepare them to transition into the collegiate learning environment. Online learning also provides wonderful opportunities for students from distant locations. Because of our strong reputation, Cedarville continually draws students from a global pool —we currently have men and women coming from 49 states and 21 countries! The Cedarville Academy is a great way to connect with students from around the world and introduce them to Cedarville. Taking college courses from a Christian perspective and having a quality learning experience could lead them to choose Cedarville for their undergraduate education. This helps us stay healthy for the future. And it seems to be catching on. From the fall semester to this spring, we have doubled our enrollment — and after only a one-year pilot program! Making It Happen An outstanding team has worked with me to make this program a reality, and I’m excited to see The Cedarville Academy take off. It will help us stay strong for the future as we draw top Christian students into our academic community. Not only that, the Center for Teaching and Learning is expanding our online course offerings and training additional faculty to teach in an online learning community. One thing that makes The Cedarville Academy unique is that high school students are learning alongside our own University students. Having our current students interact with high school juniors and seniors raises the bar for the younger participants and prepares them for Cedarville’s academic rigor. Pr epar i ng f or Co l l ege 101 When I think about the direction I’d like to see Cedarville University go, one thing tops the list: the continued development of quality programs. It’s something we’ve built our reputation on, and it’s one of the main reasons The Cedarville Academy is so vital to the future growth of this University.
