2 Campus Employment More than 1,600 students work on campus. Students typically work up to 12 hours per week based on their schedules. Create your student employment profile online before you arrive and select the areas in which you have interest. Be sure to bring two forms of photo identification (passport, driver’s license, or CU student ID) along with your original Social Security card or birth certificate to complete the necessary documentation with Payroll. cedarville.edu/studentemployment Extracurricular Activities and Ministries You’ll find out quickly that there are tons of opportunities to get involved. Here are some opportunities to consider along with how you should prepare: Department of Music and Worship Ensembles Auditions for our eight vocal or instrumental ensembles will take place Sunday, August 19. All students who love to play or sing, and desire to improve their skills and/or take private lessons, should sign up. Nonmusic majors make up a large percentage of our ensembles, so get involved! Auditions are intentionally brief and relaxed. Auditions will consist of: Vocal (approximately five minutes) • Singing a capella one verse of a hymn, chorus, or vocal solo • Vocalizing to check your vocal range • Sight reading a short melody to demonstrate how well you read music • A brief interview to allow the directors to get to know you Instrumental (approximately 10 minutes) • Playing a prepared piece of your choice (you may use a hymn or chorus) • Playing several major scales • Sight reading to demonstrate how well you read music (we know you may be rusty!) • A brief interview to allow the directors to get to know you Practice rooms are available near room 149 (choral room) in the Dixon Ministry Center (DMC). Sign up at the Department of Music andWorship table on Friday or Saturday duringWelcome to the ’Ville, or sign up at DMC 125 on Sunday afternoon. You may borrow an instrument from the University for your audition. If you earn a spot in the ensemble, you may also rent an instrument for the duration of the school year. HeartSong Ministries Four HeartSong teams from the Christian Ministries Division travel 10 weekends throughout the school year and for 10 weeks during the summer. They meet approximately six hours each week for rehearsals and training. Everything you need to know about auditions can be found online. If you want to critically think through and engage issues from multiple perspectives, sign up for an audition when you arrive on campus. No previous debate experience or audition preparation is necessary. For more information, see page 6 . Speech Team Sign up for an audition time with Cedarville’s intercollegiate speech teamwhen you arrive. The audition consists of a letter of recommendation, a brief interview, and a performance (memorized speech and oral interpretation with script). For more information, see page 6. Centennial Library The Centennial Library is the place to come for help with your college research and course work. Register to compete in the Centennial Library’s Amazing Race on either Monday, August 19, or Tuesday, August 20. This unique, one-hour orientation will show you how to access books, journals, media, electronic resources, and more. Meet the librarians and staff members who can help you use these resources. Free ice cream bars for all participants! Technology and Mobile Resources Self-Provided Computer (SPC) You will have the option this summer to request a University-provided computer for your residence hall room. We also provide University-owned computers and black-and-white laser printers in the computer labs. Even so, many students bring their own laptop, desktop computer, personal printer, or tablet device. We support both Mac and PC systems. Here are the recommended preparations for your SPC: • Use your CedarNet username and password to download free software for your Windows and Mac systems at cedarville.edu/spcsoftware . • Install virus and malware protection and verify that it is up-to-date. • Make sure that your Windows SPC is current on all Windows updates. • Mac SPC users should run“Software Update”from the Apple menu.
