A Look Into the Past
Despite his problems with the Board of Trustees, McChesney was well-respected by alumni and by rhe community. For instance, from 1932 until his death, he was elected by a wide margin to the Ohio Legislature every term but one. As presi- dent, he greatly enjoyed traveling to churches to preach rhe Gospel and raise support for the college he believed in. An editorial in the Cedarville Herald called McChesney "a first citizen of his communi- ty and of the religious community at large." The piece wenton to express,"He lived each day what he preached and what he taught as well as what he advo- cated for the uplift of his fellow citizens." Lisa Fawcett History 25
