The student will then apply these principles to the care of patients using a biblical worldview. Prerequisite: P1 in good standing or approval of instructor. PHAR-6143 3 hours Foundations of Endocrine and Chemotherapy Drugs This course will discuss the medicinal chemistry, pharmacology, toxicology, pharmacogenomics, and other foundational science principles of the endocrine and chemotherapy drugs used in the practice of pharmacy. The student will apply these foundational science principles to the care of patients with endocrine and oncologic disorders using a biblical worldview. Prerequisite: P1 or approval of instructor. PHAR-6171 1 hour Community Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience I Community Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPE-I) in the first year of the professional curriculum is designed to provide opportunities for students to practice technical pharmacy skills in community settings. Students in Community IPPE-I will meet with an assigned preceptor for five-hour periods through the semester, totaling 50 contact hours. Students will demonstrate core practice skills: communication, calculations, ethics, medication safety, managing resources, wellness, health promotion, technology, informatics, and critical thinking. Prerequisite: P1 or approval of instructor. PHAR-6172 1 hour Community Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experience II Community Introductory Pharmacy Practice Experiences (IPPEII) in the first year of the professional curriculum is designed to provide opportunities for students to practice technical pharmacy skills in community settings. PHAR-6240 Applied Biomedical Sciences Module 2 hours This course will cover the pathophysiology, management, and drug therapy of conditions related to electrolyte and fluid imbalance, enteral and parenteral nutrition as well as anemias. The knowledge gained will enable the student to manage electrolyte and fluid disorders and anemias, establish and employ rational treatment, and provide parameters to monitor progress of the regimens. This course also will cover tools to effectively assess therapy including interpretation of laboratory values. Prerequisite: P2 or approval of instructor. PHAR-6246 Therapeutics I 6 hours This course prepares the student to manage the therapy of patients with conditions or diseases affecting the cardiovascular and renal systems. The course focuses on the foundational knowledge and application of principles using active learning pedagogy in a team-taught environment. The course vertically integrates basic pharmaceutical sciences with therapeutics, patient assessment, epidemiology, and administrative and psychosocial behavioral issues involved in the prevention and treatment of cardiovascular and renal system disorders. Prerequisite: P2 or approval of instructor. PHAR-6247 Therapeutics II 6 hours This course prepares the student to manage the therapy of patients with conditions or diseases affecting the gastrointestinal and respiratory systems. The course focuses on the foundational knowledge and application of principles using active learning pedagogy in a team-taught environment. The course vertically integrates basic pharmaceutical sciences with therapeutics, patient assessment, epidemiology, and administrative and psychosocial behavioral issues involved in the prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal and respiratory system disorders. Prerequisite: P2 or approval of instructor. PHAR-6256 Therapeutics III 6 hours This course prepares the student to manage the therapy of patients with conditions or diseases affecting the endocrine and genitourinary systems. The course focuses on the foundational knowledge and application of principles using active learning pedagogy in a team-taught environment. The course vertically integrates basic pharmaceutical sciences with therapeutics, patient assessment, epidemiology, and administrative and psychosocial behavioral issues involved in the prevention and treatment of endocrine and genitourinary system disorders. Prerequisite: P2 or approval of instructor. PHAR-6257 Therapeutics IV 6 hours This course prepares the student to manage the therapy of patients with conditions or diseases affecting the infectious disease and immunology systems. The course focuses on the foundational knowledge and application of principles using active learning pedagogy in a team-taught environment. The course vertically integrates basic pharmaceutical sciences with therapeutics, patient assessment, epidemiology, and administrative and psycho-social behavioral issues involved in the prevention and treatment of infectious disease and immunology system disorders. Prerequisite: P2 or approval of instructor. PHAR-6258 Synthesis I 2 hours This course will bring together foundational, social and administrative, legal, ethical, and clinical concepts across cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal, and respiratory coursework to prepare students to become practice-ready, team-ready pharmacists. Students will apply these concepts to the care of patients and practice of pharmacy using a biblical worldview. Prerequisite: P2 in good standing or approval of instructor. (Credit/No Credit) PHAR-6259 Integrated Skills Lab I 1 hour This course provides an introduction to key elements of pharmacist care of patients, including patient assessment, patient safety, and quality improvement. It also reinforces knowledge of the top 200 medications and pharmacy calculations skills. As part of this course, students will learn about topics such as the basics of physical assessment, taking a medical history and review of systems, interpretation of laboratory and diagnostic tests, documentation of patient care activities, writing progress notes, and therapeutic plan development as part of patient-centered care related to cardiovascular, renal, gastrointestinal, and respiratory diseases and conditions. Prerequisite: P2 in good standing or approval of instructor. PHAR-6268 Synthesis II 2 hours This course will bring together foundational, social and administrative, legal, ethical, and clinical concepts across infectious disease, endocrinology, and men's and women's health coursework to prepare students to become practice-ready, teamready pharmacists.
