Page 52 2024–25 Graduate Academic Catalog School of Biblical and Theological Studies Graduate Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies Graduate Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies Purpose Statement The Graduate Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies will equip students with a foundational understanding of the Bible and biblical doctrine. The certificate is designed for anyone seeking graduate-level training, including current Cedarville University students from other programs. Students can choose four of five course options to tailor the certificate to their specific needs. Program Objectives Candidates who complete the Graduate Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies are equipped to: • Understand the contribution of each book of the Bible and how it relates to the message of the Bible as a whole. • Explain key doctrines of the faith from their biblical basis with reference to historical development. Program Delivery Cedarville University has designed the Graduate Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies to be flexible and accessible. Courses are offered in a seven-week online format. The certificate can be completed in as little as one year. Course Requirements Course requirements involve a minimum of 12 semester hours. Choose four from the following: BTBS-6010 Old Testament Overview.............................................3 BTBS-6015 New Testament Overview...........................................3 BTHT-6105 Introduction to Biblical Theology..................................3 BTHT-6170 Systematic Theology 1................................................3 BTHT-6180 Systematic Theology 2................................................3 Admission Standards The Cedarville University Graduate Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies program invites applications from qualified students who hold a bachelor’s degree from a regionally accredited or otherwise approved university, who are able to present a strong academic record, and who have a profession of faith in Jesus Christ. In addition to the general admission requirements listed in the Graduate Admissions section of this catalog, applicants must meet the following requirements: • Have a cumulative undergraduate grade point average of at least 2.3 (on a 4.0 scale). Conditional acceptance may be offered in some cases. • Recommendations from a pastor and an academic referent/ professor. Recommendations from personal friends or family members will not be accepted. Admission Process and Timeframe Applicants should follow specific admission criteria found in the Admissions section of the graduate catalog. Application decisions are generally made by the graduate program leadership in the School of Biblical and Theological Studies within two weeks after an admission application is completed. Graduate Enrollment will notify applicants of the admission decision. Tuition and Fees Tuition cost for the Graduate Certificate in Biblical and Theological Studies for the 2024–25 academic year is $436 per semester hour. Audit is $218 per semester hour. Financial Aid Leadership courses completed for the graduate certificate, as a nondegree program, are not eligible for federal or state aid. However, students may qualify for personal loans to pay for this program.
