26 Cedarville College. In the first part of the Sophomore year, Analvtical Geometry . . is required. This is intended as an introduction to the study of higher Mathematics. It is important to a thorough education; without it a student is ignorant of even the process of thought of the mathematician of his day. A general treatment is given of the Point, the Straight Line, the Circle, the Parabola, the Hyperbola and the Ellipse; also a discussion of the General Equa– tion of the Second Degree, and of a few of the Higher Plane Curves. Loomis' text is used. This is followed by an elementary study of the two branches of Calculus-Differential and Integral. Under the former is given a careful treatment of the differentiation of all functions, expansion of functions in series, maxima and minima of func– tions of a single variable. umerous examples illustrative of these principles are introduced. In the Integral Calculus the fol– lowing subjects are treated: Elementary forms of Integration, Integration of Rational Functions, Integration of Irrational Functions, Integration by series, etc. Loomis' text is used in this also, and numerous examples are introduced illustrating all of these principles. The instruction is by the recitation and lecture system.
