SnoRT STORY WRITING--A careful study is made of the structure of the short story and much attention given to the details of composition and to literary excellence. AMERICAN POETRY-A survey is taken of the most char– acteristic works of Bryant, Poe, Emerson, Longfellow, Whhtier, Holmes, Lowell, Whitman, Lanier, and Riley. WoROSWORTH, BROWNING, TENNYSON-This course includes a critical study of a few selections from each poet and the rapid reading of others. ENcu se MASTERPIECES-This course is intended to develop a sympathetic appreciation of literature through the study of chosen masterpieces.
