DESCRIPTION OF COURSES 35 10. Educational Psychology A study of the psychological principles concerned with the pro– cesses of acquiring, retaining, and applying knowledge presented in secondary schools. Three hours credit, one semester. 14. Principles of Secondary Education The individual-social principles of the philosophy of life and edu– cation are considered, together with the problems, aims, and objectives of the secondary school. Three hours, second semester. 15. Introduction To Education ( See Elementary Education 15) 17. History of Education A study of the development of the American school system, with its European backgr ound. Three hours, one semester. 22. Tests and Measurements A study of intelligence tests, standardized tests, and the new type subject matter tests, with the meaning and application of statistical methods as applied to secondary teaching. Two hours, one semester. 24. Student Teaching Required for State High School Certificate. Three hours credit are given for t eaching one hour a day for nine weeks. Three hours credit, one semester. 28. Methods Methods of teaching high school subjects are taught by the pro– fessor s of the departments wherein they belong. Two hours credit, one semester. Health and Physical Education: Professors Pyatte and Hysell, Mr. Campbell 1-2. Physical Education For Men Required for all men students unless excused by the Director of the Department. 3-4. Physical Education For Women Required of all women students unless excused by the Director of the Department. 100 Personal Hygiene (Men and Women) Personal hygiene as a means for the improvement of living. The meaning of health in terms of life values, the biologic approach to the study of health, ways for improvement of health and prevention of disease. Three credit hours, second semester. 125 Principles of Coaching and Management (Men) To acquaint the student with the various methods used in coach– ing and administering a program dealing with soccer, speedball and tennis.
