In 19 52 Ohio had less than one half the numbe r of qua lified p e r sons required t o s t aff the ra pidly expanding public e leme nta ry sch ools. Students who comple t e the training program in this fie ld should h ave n o difficulty in finding a t – tra ctive p osition s. This offe rs a wide fie ld of Christian Se rvice. At present the r e a re fewe r oppor t unities f or employment in t he sec– ond a ry schools. Prosp ective high school t eache r s sh ould consult the Director of Student T eac.he rs con cerning the most promising fie lds of sp ecia lization . OUT-OF-STATE STUDENTS The curriculums described in this cata log a re based on the requirements of the Sta te D epartment of Education of Ohio. Students who expect t o teach in othe r st ates should consult the Director of T eache r Education in or– der that any necessary adjus tmen ts can b e m a de t o inc lude othe r require– m ents. R ESIDENT REQUIREM ENTS A m inimum of t hirty semester h ours must be com p le te d in residen ce t o receive the degree, B ache lo r of S c ien ce in E du cation. At leas t one semest e r or two summer sessions of residence work should be complet ed prior t o reg– i~lr a t ion f or student t eaching. Transfer students who ent e r the cadet program comple te a m inimum of twelve semester hours in residence p rior to certification . Those in t he t hree-year cur ricula are required to complete a t least e igh teen semest e r hours in residence. STUDENT TEACHING The successful completion of a prescribed period of student tea ch ing i r, required for the degree, Bachelor of Science in Education, and fo r recom– mendati on fo r a teache r 's certificate. I n addition, the student t eacl1er is ex– pected to p ossess those p er sonal and profe ssional attr ibutes and cl1aracte r– ibtics decme::l n ecessary for success in the teaching p rofe~sion. - 31---
