EDUCATION AND PSYCHOLOGY 63 340 THE TEACHING OF READING Prerequisite: EP210, EP260 Includes basic principles, current practices, problems, and issues, evalua- tion of textbooks, and materials utilized in reading. Five credit houn 350 THE TEACHING OF LANGUAGE ARTS AND SOCIAL STUDIES Prerequisite: EP210, EP260 Appraisal of the language arts and social studies-objectives, techniques of instruction, experience units, teaching aids and resource materials. 400 INDEPENDENT STUDY IN EDUCATION Prerequisite: 15 hottrs in Education and Psychology Five credit Hours Investigation of contemporary topics in education through reading, writ- ing, or creative projects. One to four credit hours 440 SPECIAL STUDENT TEACHING Occasionally unusual situations arise which entail special provisions. Nine to .fifteen credit hours 450 SUPERVISED TEACHING AND SEMINAR All directed teaching is done in nearby schools. One quarter must be re– served. Assignments are made during the .first part of the quarter. All required education courses must be completed. Fifteen credit hours THE DEPARTMENT OF PSYCHOLOGY The goals of the Department of Psychology are: 1. To aid students in their personal adjustment to everyday life through an understanding of human behavior. 2. To provide courses in psychology necessary for teacher certification. 3. To provide both elective courses and an academic minor that will enable students to gain an appreciation of and background in the more com– mon areas of psychology. REQUIREMENTS FOR A MINOR IN PSYCHOLOGY. Twenty-four quarter hours in Psychology including 160, 260, 361, and either 364 or 365. B. PSYCHOLOGY 160 GENERAL PSYCHOLOGY Designed to provide a survey of modern scientific psychology. The course content is centered on such topics as maturation, learning, sensation, per– ception, motivation, thinking, remembering, emotion, intelligence, and per– sonality development. Four credit hours 260 HUMAN GROWTH AND DEVELOPMENT Prerequisite: BP160 An analysis of the physiological and psychological development of the individual from conception through adolescence. Observations and case studies are required. Five credit hours
