THE DEPARTMENT OF EDUCATION The Division of Education is approved by the State of Ohio to offer pro– grams in A) Elementary Education, B) Music Education (Special certificate) , and C) Secondary Education. This division offers instruction with the pur– pose of providing competent and enthusiastic teachers for public, Christian, and missionary schools. TEACHER CERTIFICATION. Cedarville College is approved by the State Department of Education to offer programs in both Elementary and Secondary Education leading to the Four-year Provisional Certificate. The following teaching fields are available for those who are preparing to teach in high school: biological science, bookkeeping-basic business, compre– hensive business education, English, general science, history and government, mathematics, music (secondary and special), physical education, physical science, salesmanship-merchandising, comprehensive science, comprehensive social studies, speecli and stenography-typing. Other fields such as economics, sociology, physics, chemistry, etc. will, upon recommendation of the college, be added to the certificate provided the applicant has completed 27 quarter hours of appropriate credit. Candidates for the provisional certificate must meet all the general edu– cation requirements of the college. They must be emotionally, morally, and physically fit; free from objectionable uncorrected speech, hearing, and visual problems; and must be capable of speaking and writing correct English. Students who complete the program leading to the Ohio provisional cer– tificate will be able to seek certification in most states. Specific requirements may be determined by writing the certification division of the state depart– ments of education. ADMISSION TO AND RETENTION IN THE TEACHER EDUCATION PROGRAM Students may apply for admission to the teacher education program near the conclusion of their sophomore year, generally the spring quarter.
