Payne DEPARTMENT OF ART The department seeks to engender in students an appreciation of the aesthetic and cultural values of art, and to aid some in their own artistic expression. An art exhibit of student work is presented annually for the inspection and pleasure of the student body and visitors to the campus. All art work produced by the students is considered the property of the College until after the exhibit. Trips to regional art museums are planned and promoted by the depart– ment. REQUIREMENTS FOR A MINOR IN ART. Twenty-four quarter hours, in– cluding Art 100, 121, 122, 125, 221-222, and two hours of electives in Art. 100 ART AND MUSIC IN HISTORY-A, W, Sp Considers the relationship of music and art to the dominant cultural, religious, and philosophical trends during historical periods of man's devel– opment. Suggests a basis for an appreciation and an evaluation of different types of art and music. Five credit hours 121 BEGINNING DRAWING-A The elemental forms of nature and still-life are studied and executed in pencil, charcoal, crayon, and ink. Three credit hourJ 122 ADVANCED DRAWING-W Prerequisite: Art 121 or permission of the instructor The study of the clothed figure in the various drawing media. Three credit hours 125 DESIGN-Sp Prerequisite: Art 121 or permission of the instructor Studio research into the underlying principles of design. Formal and abstract arrangements are produced with attention given to line, form, value, and color. Five credit hours 221-222-223 PAINTING-A, W, Sp Prerequisite: Art 122 or permission of the instructor The study of still-life and landscape in pastel, watercolor, casein, and oils. Some technics of portrait painting will also be included. Three credit hours each quarter
