Five credit hours 350 THE TEACHING OF LANGUAGE ARTS AND SOCIAL STUDIES Prerequisite: ED210, PY260 Appraisal of the language arts and social studies--objectives, techniques of instruction, experience units, teaching aids and resource materials. Five credit Hours 353 DEVELOPMENTAL READING A study of extension of reading skills beyond the basics. Improvement of speed, perceptual development, critical reading and the like. Consideration of reading in various subject areas. Exposure to reading equipment. 400 INDEPENDENT STUDY IN EDUCATION Prereqttisite: 15 hours in Education Three credit hours Investigation of contemporary topics in education through reading, writ- ing, or creative projects. One to four credit hours 401 EARLY CHILDHOOD EDUCATION Prerequisite: 10 ho11rs of 300 level ed11cation cottrses A consideration of the function of pre-school education in the total life of the child including a study of the research and theory of his physical, mental, emotional, and social growth. Discussion of current pre-school and primary programs. Four credit hours 403 KINDERGARTEN CURRICULUM AND METHODS Prereqttisite: ED401 A study of purposes, content, methods and resources for teaching and learning in kindergarten. Four credit hours 440 SPECIAL STUDENT TEACHING Occasionally unusual situations arise which entail special provisions, e.g. summer school student teaching for experienced teachers. 450 SUPERVISED TEACHING AND SEMINAR Prerequisite: All required education courses Nine to fifteen credit hou1'S Most directed teaching is done in nearby schools. Opportunities for place– ment in Christian Day Schools and on the mission field are available. One quarter must be reserved. The seminar includes a study of measurement and evaluation procedures.
