EDUCATION 201 Planned Observation and Pre-Vocational Experience 1 hour Each student arranges 25 hours of visitation time in a public school during which he ob– serves and participates in classroom activities. A follow-up report is required. 210 Education of the Slow learning Child 3 hours A survey of the historical, philosophical, sociological and psychological bases for the edu– cation of the educable mentally retarded child. Characteristics and needs of this type of child and current programs for meeting those needs are presented. 220 foundations of Education Shours An overview of the field of education will be given with a particular emphasis on the philo– sophical, historical, sociological, and psychological foundations of education. Throughout the course, public and Christain education will be compared and contrasted. Prerequisite: Sophomore. 230 Aris and Crafts in the Elementary School 3 hours Philosophy, methods and materials of art instruction. Emphasizes creative work, using sim– ple tools and inexpensive materials. 240 The Christian School 3 hourn Purposes and practices unique to the Christain School; integrating Christain philosophy and subject matter. Historical development of Christain Schools in the United States with im– plications for present trends. 300 Principles of Teaching Shours A general methods course concerned with the instructional process. Skills developed in stating objectives, developing units of instruction and Learning Activities Packages, using a variety of teaching techniques and strategies, and evaluating learning. Microteaching and field based experiences included.
