The English Major is strongly encouraged to enroll in cognate courses such as history, philosophy, etc. Requirements for a Minor in English. Twenty-four or twenty-five hours includ– ing Grammar and Syntax; Principles of Composition; World Literature; one course from American literature or English literature; elective(s) from Advanced Compos– ition; Creative Writing; Journalism; The English Language; Principles of Linguis– tics; or Shakespeare. English Major for Secondary Teachers. Fifty-one quarter hours.
