The course content is cen– tered on such topics as maturation, learning, sensation, perception, motivation, thinking, re– membering, emotion, intelligence, and personality development. 260 Human Growth and Development- W, Sp, Su 5 hours An analysis of the physiological and psychological development of the individual from con– ception through adolescence. Prerequisite: PY160. 261 Psychological Statistics I - A, Sp 5 hours Designed to provide an elementary coverage of descriptive and sampling statistics commonly used in psychology. This includes problems of measurement, measures of central tendency and dispersion, linear correlation, prediction, and simple tests of significance. Pre– requisite: PY160 264 Psychology of Abnormal Behavior - A, Su 5 hours A course dealing with the appropriate and inappropriate reactions to frustration and stress; solutions of conflicts, fears, and anxiety; building emotional stability and preventing mental ill– ness. The major categories of mental illness and maladjustment, including the psychoses, the neuroses, mental deficiency and anti-social behavior are discussed with emphasis placed on causes, symptoms, and methods of therapy. Prerequisite: PY160 270 Educational Psychology -A, Su 4 hours The application of principles of human development and learning to the problems of edu– cation and classroom learning. Prerequisite: PY 160 361 History and Systems of Psychology -A 4 hours Major trends in the development of psychology from its beginning to the present. Emphasis is placed upon contemporary theory. Prerequisite: PY160 362 Psychological Statistics II - A, Sp, Su 5 hours Statistical methods and interpretations encountered in experimental studies and presenta– tions of behavioral data. Analysis of variance and covariance techniques are emphasized. Prerequisite: PY261 363 Psychological Measurement - W 5 hours An analysis of theoretical principles and assumptions basic to the measurement of human characteristics and behavior. Offers training in the construction, selection and use of psycho– logical tests. Prerequisite: PY261 365 Psychology of Learning - W 4 hours Concepts and theories of learning with emphasis placed on personal applications of ac– cepted procedures.
