Prerequisite: 31-341 Learning Disabilities and Behavior Disorders. 31-415 Administrating Special Education in the Christian School 5 hours An analysis of the administrative concerns and techniques of administrating special education programs in the Christian school. Program organization, budgeting, discipline, and inter– school concerns are reviewed. 31-416 Curriculum Writing for the Retarded in the Sunday School 3 hours Consideration of factors involved in planning, layout, and development of Sunday school and Christian school curricula. 31-418 Counseling Methods with the Mentally Retarded and Developmentally Disabled 3 hours An exploration of methods and techniques of counseling adapt– ed to the special circumstances. Similarities and differences to us– ual counseling practices analyzed. Prerequisite: 31-340 Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. 31-420 Teaching the Preschool Mentally Retarded Child in the Home 3 hours A survey of training methods available to parents. Specific self-help skills presented. Prerequisite: 31-340 Mental Retarda– tion and Developmental Disabilities. 31-421 Elementary Methods for Teaching the Retarded 5 hours A study of the methods, materials, and resources needed for the effective instruction of EMR and TMR child. Field experience in a participant-observer program is included. Prerequisite: 31-340 Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. 31-423 Methods of Teaching the Seve1·ely-Profoundly Retarded 5 hours An analysis of the learning abilities of the severely-profoundly retarded. Strategies for teaching self-help skills, basic academics, vocational skills, and maintenance skills explored and developed. Prerequisite: 31-340 Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. 31-424 Vocational Training for the Retarded 5 hours Philosophy, methods, materials, and facilities need~d to in– itiate and maintain vocational programs for secondary schools. Sheltered workshops, community job placements, and school planning are explored. Prerequisite: 31-340 Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. 31-430 Practicum in Methods and Teaching of the Mentally Retarded and Developmentally Disabled 10 hours Experience in the use of teaching methods in classroom or workshop setting at Shepherds. Must be taken at Shepherds. 31-431 Practicum in Residential Care of the Mentally Retarded and Developmentally Disabled lOhours Experience in the actual care of the mentally retarded in their residential setting. Must be taken at Shepherds.
