Prerequisite: 41-273 Intermediate Spanish or permission of instructor. 41-363 Chicano Literature 3 hours The study of the literary works of Spanish Americans, em– phasizing the Mexican-American. Includes short story, drama, poetry, and novel. Course taught in English and open to non– majors or minors. 41-370 Teaching Foreign Language 3 hours Aquaints the student with the purposes and objectives along with the methods used in the Secondary foreign language class– room. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Pro– gram. 41-372, 41-373 Masterpieces of Spanish Literature 4 hours each quarter Covers major works of Spain from the medieval and Renais– sance periods to the present day. Course alternates yearly between Spain and Latin America and serves partly as introduction to literature sur– vey courses. Prerequisite: 41-373 Masterpieces of Spanish Literature or permission of instructor. 41-470 Independent Study in Spanish 1-4 hours Independent and intensive study in a particular area of the Spanish language, literature, or culture for individual students who demonstrate special interests and ability. Prerequisite: 41-183 Elementary German or at least two years of high school German. 41-380 Directed Readings in German 1-4 hours The student, in cooperation with his or her advisor and the in– structor, will select research level readings in the student's major field.
