Content includes response patterns of children versus adults to acute illness and the unique resources needed by each to restore health. Planning, interventions, and evaluation components are emphasized as the nursing process is applied in hospital settings. Prerequisites: 56-201, 56-202 Theoretical and Technical Foun– dations of Nursing Process; 56-206 Nutrition of Individuals and Families. 56-403, 56-404 Nursing Care of Children and Adults: Inte1·mittent-Permanent Physiological Imbalances - W 10 hours An indepth analysis is presented of the common intermittent– permanent physiological imbalances of children and adults and the health care delivery system (including nursing, pharmacologi– cal, and medical resources) needed to restore a health balance. Study includes response patterns of children, families, and adults to chronic illness and physical disability and the unique resources needed by each to maintain or improve current health. The ethi– cal, political, economic, and social factors of caring for persons with intermittent, permanent or terminal illnesses are discussed. Planning intervention and evaluation components are emphasized as the nursing process is applied in a variety of settings. Pre- requisites: 56-40 I, 56-402 Nursing Care of Children and Adults: Acute Physiological Imbalances. 56-405, 56-407 Management and Advanced Clinical Nurs– ing - S 10 hours Health care organizations and the leadership/management skills required in various nursing care delivery systems are ex– plored in this course. Content areas include cost control, decision making, supervision, budget, evaluation of care, leadership, per– formance, and systems. Clinical practice involves working under the direction of facul– ty, clinical supervisor, assistant director of nursing, clinical specialist and/or head nurse in a practical area of the student's choice. Prerequisites: 56-403, 56-404 Nursing Care of Children and Adults: Intermittent-Permanent Physiological Imbalances. 56-4JW Research in Nursing- W 3 hours The research process as applied to clinical nursing problems is discussed. Content focus is on statement of problem, develop– ment of conceptual framework, research method selection, data analysis, and discussion of the findings. Discussion of the ethics of research and constraints of obtaining a sample are included. Prerequisites: 66-261 Psychological Statistics or 71-384 Proba– bility and Statistics. 56-412 Seminar in Nursing - S 2 hours Major professional issues in nursing and the political, economic, social, and religious factors that influence these issues are discussed in this course.
