This includes problems of measurement, measures of central tendency and dis– persion, linear correlation, prediction, and simple tests of signifi– cance. Prerequisite: 66-160 General Psychology. 66-264 Psychology of Abnormal Behavim· -Sp, Su 5 hours Focus upon etiology, symptomatology, and prognosis of psycho– logical disturbance. Prerequisite: 66-160 General Psychology. 66-361 History and Systems of Psychology -A 4 hours Major trends in the development of psychology from its begin– ning to the present. Emphasis is placed upon contemporary theory. Prerequisite: 66-160 General Psychology. 66-363 Psychological Measurement - W 5 hours An analysis of theoretical principles and assumptions basic to the measurement of human characteristics and behavior. Offers training in the construction, selection, and use of psychological tests. Prerequisite: 66-261 Psychological Statistics. 66-364 Industrial Psychology 4 hours Psychology applied to the world of work. Emphasis is on the methodology and activities of industrial/organizational psycholo– gists. Prerequisite: 66-160 General Psychology, 66-261 Psychol– ogical Statistics or 11-211 Quantitative Methods. (Alternate, odd years) 66-365 Psychology of Leaming -W 4 hours Concepts and theories of learning with emphasis placed on per– sonal applications of accepted procedures. Prerequisite: 66-160 General Psychology. 66-366 Fundamentals of Counseling - W, Sp 5 hours An introductory course emphasizing the underlying philoso– phies, current theories, and accepted procedures of counseling. Prerequisite: 66-160 General Psychology 66-367 Group Counseling - A 5 hours The theory and practice of the group counseling process are dis– cussed. Emphasis is on group methodology and procedures. Each student participates in a group counseling experience. Prerequis- ite: 66-160 General Psychology. (Alternate, odd years) 66-369 Social Psychology - Sp 5 hours The study of the behavior of individuals as it is influenced by past and/or present interactions with social factors. Prerequisite: 99 66-160 General Psychology. 66-372 Psychology of Personality - W 4 hours Contemporary theories of the development, organization, and dynamics of personality. Prerequisite: 66-160 General Psycholo– gy. 66-373 Psychological Research, Methods -A 3 hours An introduction to methods utilized in psychological research with emphasis placed on experimental methodology and research design. Prerequisite: 66-261 Psychological Statistics. 66-374 Psychological Research, Practice - W 3 hours An application of the principles presented in 66-261 and 66- 373. Students design, execute, and analyze a psychological re– search project which is written up in journal article form. Pre– requisite: 66-373 Psychological Research Methodology 66-460 Independent Study in Psychology - A, W, Sp, Su 1-4 hours Independent research carried out by the advanced psychology stu– dent in an area of interest and usefulness to the student. Prerequisite: Twelve quarter hours of psychology and permission of instructor. 66-464-465 Seminar in Psychology 4 hours 66-464 Literature Seminar Reports and discussions of research literature in psychology. 66-465 Special Topics Seminar Various topics to be offered as interest may demand. Some typical topics studied: (a) Physiological Psychology, (b) Sensation and Perception, (c) Motivation, (d) Clinical Psy– chology, (e) Group Dynamics, (f) Research Design in Psy– chology, (g) Behavior Problems in Children, and (h) Psy– cholinguistics. All psychology majors are required to take 66-464 during their senior year; 66-465 is available to students with advanced stand– ing in psychology. Prerequisite: Major or minor in psychology and consent of instructor. 66-499 Psychology Internship-A, W, Sp, Su 5-16 hours Junior and senior psychology majors who engage in psycholo– gical activity at a clinic, hospital, or other mental health institu– tion may register for 5 to 15 hours credit. The approval of the de– partment is necessary for any proposed internship. One member of the psychology department will supervise the student's in– ternship. The psychology department will determine the number of credit hours that will be given for individual work experience.
