Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Edu– cation Program. 31-321 Philosophy of Education 3 hours A critical analysis of educational philosophies and their impact on Christian educational philosophy. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program or 21-220 Introduction to Phi– losophy. 31-350 Ke~adine in the Content Areas 3 hours An introduction to the reading process as it is related to the con– tent areas. Various aspects include the nature of reading, assess– ment techniques, organizational strategies, vocabulary develop– ment, comprehension improvement, and study skills. 31-352 Developmental Reading 5 hours Includes basic philosophies, current practices, testing and evaluation for reading disabilities and corrections; and materials and methods utilized in the teaching of reading in the secondary schools. Laboratory experiences are included. 31-363 Methods and Materials for Eh~m4mtar:v Mathema– tics 5 hours A course which includes the study and analysis of various pro– cedures used in the elementary school mathematics program and the application of the findings with emphasis on methods and ma– terials. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Pro– gram and 31-182 Mathematics for the Elementary Teacher. 31-372 31-376 Elc:~mEmt:flrv School Methods II 11 hours An introduction to the objectives, skills, and strategies of in– struction, teaching aids, audio visuals, resource materials; an em– phasis on informal and formal diagnostic procedures; implemen– tation in field experience in the teaching of mathematics, science, and social studies. Prerequisite: 31-390 Elementary School Methods I, 31-182 Mathematics for the Elementary Teacher, 31- 363 Methods and Materials for Elementary Mathematics. 31-380 Practicum in and Remediation Techniques 3 hours Experience in the use of formal and informal testing to diag– nose various types of developmental and remedial reading prob– lems. Emphasis upon individual assessment techniques in iden– tification, testing, and causation of reading difficulty. Experience in the techniques of tutoring pupils having reading problems. De– velopment of instructional strategies of diagnostic teaching. Pre– requisite: 31-340 Mental Retardation and Developmental Dis– abilities 31-391 3la394 Eh~m~~ntarv School Methods I 11 hours An introduction to the objectives, skills, and strategies of in– struction with a linguistic emphasis, and teaching aids, and re– source materials, and implementation in field experience in the teaching of reading, and language arts. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program. 31-400 in Education 1 -4 hours Investigation of contemporary topics in education through teaching of reading, and language arts. Prerequisite: I5 hours in education. 31-440 Special Student 5 hours Occasionally, unusual situations arise which entail special pro– visions; e.g., summer school student teaching for experienced teachers. 31-450 Teaching and Seminar 15 hours Most directed teaching is done in nearby schools. Oppor– tunities for placement on the mission field are available. One quarter must be reserved. The seminar includes a study of con– temporary topics in education. Prerequisite: All required educa– tion courses. 31-231 Arts, Crafts, and Music for the Retarded 3 hours A study of the methods of teaching the arts to the retarded. These arts are therapeutically and vocationally applied. Must be taken at Shepherds. 31-260 Special Education in the Church 3 hours An overview will be given of the characteristics of the mentally
