Field experience in a participant-observer program is included. Prerequisite: 31-340 Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. 31-423 Methods of the Retarded 5 hours An analysis of the learning abilities of the severely-profoundly retarded. Strategies for teaching self-help skills, basic academics, vocational skills, and maintenance skills explored and developed. Prerequisite: 31-340 Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. 31-424 Vocational for the Retarded 5 hours Philosophy, methods, materials, and facilities needed to in– itiate and maintain vocational programs for secondary schools. Sheltered workshops, community job placements, and school planning are explored. Prerequisite: 31-340 Mental Retardation and Developmental Disabilities. 31-430 Practicum in Methods and of the Mentally Retarded and Developmentally 10 hours Experience in the use of teaching methods in classroom or workshop setting at Shepherds. Must be taken at Shepherds. 31-431 Practicum in Residential Care of the Mentally Retarded and Disabled 10 hours Experience in the actual care of the mentally retarded in their residential setting.
