11-331 Money and Banking-Sp 4 hours A study of the principles of money, credit, and banking; and the opera– tion of the banking system. Prerequisite: 11-231, 11-232 Principles of Economics. 11-334 History of Economic Thought - W 4 hours Principal figures in the development of economic ideas, and the con– tribution of each period of economnic thought from the mercantilist to the present. Prerequisite: 11-231, 11-232 Principles of Economics. (Alternate, odd years) 11-335 Comparative Economic Systems-A 4 hours Analysis of the major economic systems existing in the world today. This involves, among others, capitalism, socialism, communism, and fascism. The economies of France, China, Japan, and Yugoslavia are considered. (Alternate, even years) 11-337 Labor Economics Sp 4 hours An examination of the role of unions and the labor market in a free en– terprise system. Emphasis is given to the impact of unions as a social in– stitution in the collective bargaining process. Labor legislation and the labor movement are studied from both a historical and current perspec– tive. Prerequisites: 11-231, 11-232 Principles of Economics. (Alternate, even years) 11-339 Public Finance -Sp 4 hours A consideration of the financing of local, state, and federal govern– ments. Much attention is given to three functions of government: stabili– zation, distribution, and allocation. All major taxes which are present in the United Stares are studied as to structure, revenue gained, and present status. Prerequisite: 11-231 Principles of Economics. (Alternate, odd years) 11-251 Principles ofOrganization and Management-A, W, S 4 hours An examination of the policies, principles, practices, and problems in– volved in the organization and management of business concerns. 11-253 Organizational Behavior W 4 hours A study of the impact of human behavior within and upon the organi– zational structure. Emphasis is given to behavior as related to employ– ment, absenteeism, employee turnover, productivity, human perform– mance, and management. Prerequisite: 11-251 Principles of Organiza– tion and Management. 11-351 Small Business Management - Sp 4 hours A course dealing with the problems involved in establishing and man– aging a small business. Financial organization, services, and problems are analyzed. Prerequisite: 11-102 Principles of Accounting, 11-251 Principles of Organization and Management, and 11-261 Principles of Marketing. 11-352 Production Management - W 4 hours A study of how manufacturing, planning, inventory analysis, make or buy orders, purchasing, equipment analysis, production scheduling, quality control, and cost control relate to production. Modem production management techniques are introduced. Prerequisite: 11-102 Principles of Accounting, 11-212 Quantitative Methods, and 11-251 Principles of Organization and Management. 11-353 Personnel Management -A 4 hours An analysis of the principal functions, processes, and problems in– volved in the management of personnel policies; selection, training, pro– motion, and discharge of personnel; labor turnover, safety, health, and recreation. Prerequisite: 11-251 Principles ofOrganization and Manage– ment. 11-354 Management Science - Sp 4 hours An introduction to linear programming, transportation and assignment problems, network flow problems, and inventory systems. The linear programming, transportation and assignment, network flow, and inven– tory models are solved and their use demonstrated by various applica– tions. Prerequisite: 11-212 Quantitative Methods. (Alternate, even years) 11-451 Management Problems and Policies-A, W, Sp 3 hours Methods of modern management as applied to industrial and business enterprises. Concepts as applied to business situations and use of the case and problem approach to stimulate the student's thinking into areas of planning and control, staffing, executing, and appraising. The responsi– bilities of business enterprise toward both their own personnel and the people they serve. Open only to seniors in business administration. 11-261 Principles of Marketing -A, W, Sp 4 hours A survey of distribution functions, middlemen and channels of trade, competition, price policies, market planning, market research, and con– sumer problems. 11-263 Principles of Advertising - W 4 hours Principles and procedures in modern advertising including analysis of products, buyer attitudes, media, layout, and copy.
