Prerequisite: 11-186 Shorthand. 11-284 Secretarial Procedures- W 3 hours Introduction to a wide variety of modem office practices, including proper telephone and communication techniqu_es, record~ 1!1anagement, duplication and copy processes, word processmg, organ~zmg 3:nd plan– ning work, the use of office machines, and other secretanal duties. Pre– requisite: 11-182 Typing. 11-285 Records Management - Sp 3 hours Instruction in the fundamentals that are essential to managing the re– cords of an office. Alphabetic, geographic, numeric, subject, and chronologic methods of filing are discussed. Also included are methods for storing various records with a concentration on a variety of manage– ment aspects of records control and retention. 11-286 Legal Office Procedures -Sp 2 hours Understanding of various facets of the law using a text-workbook with simulation recordings. Content includes when and how to use docu– ments, important legal procedures, and typical office routine. La.w offoic~ files, real estate transactions and opinion letters, wills, preparmg civil court documents, the start of litigation, objections, answers and cross– claims, as well as many other legal activities are included. Prerequisites: 11-186 Shorthand, 11-282 Dictation and Transcription, 11-284 Secre– tarial Procedures. 11-287 Medical Office Procedures-Sp 2 hours An introduction to the responsibilities of a medical secretary. Areas covered include: medicolegal communications, medical record prepara– tion, billing, health insurance procedures, and medical society functions. Prerequisites: 11-186 Shorthand, 11-282 Dictation and Transcription, 11-284 Secretarial Procedures. 11-288 Information Processing -Sp 2 hours Combines the operational knowledge of data processing and word pro– cessing. Includes an overview of telecommunications, electronic mail, and other sophisticated communications systems. Prerequisites: 11-121 Introduction to Data Processing, 11-183 Typing, 11-187 Word Pro– cessing Concepts, 11-216 Business Communications. 11-289 Secretarial Internship 5 hours Practical business experience as a general secretary; individually de– signed to meet the interests of the student.
