Prerequisite: 12-186 Shorthand. 12-284 Secretarial Procedures - W 3 hourn Introduction to a wide variety of modern office practices, including proper telephone and communication techniques, records management, duplication and copy processes, word processing, organizing and plan– ning work, the use of office machines, and other secretarial duties. Pre– requisite: 12-182 Typing. 12-285 Records Management - Sp 3 hours Instruction in the fundamentals that are essential to managing the records of an office. Alphabetic, geographic, numeric, subject, and chronologic methods of filing are discussed. Also included are methods for storing various records with a concentration on a variety of manage– ment aspects of records control and retention. 12-286 Legal Office Procedures - Sp 2 hours Includes learning legal terms, typing legal forms, an<l participating in group projects. Explanations of when and how to use documents, important legal procedures, an<l typical office routines. Prerequisites: 12-186 Shorthand, 12-282 Dictation and Transcription, 12-284 Secreta– rial Procedures. 12-287 Medical Office Procedures - Sp 2 hours An introduction to the responsibilities of a medical secretary. Areas covered include: medical terminology, commonly used drugs, diagnos– tic and surgical procedures utilized by each medical specialty, and ran– dom types of medical reports. Prerequisites: 12-186 Shorthand, 12-282 Dictation and Transcription, 12-284 Secretarial Procedures. 12-288 Information Processing - Sp 2 hours Combines the operational knowledge of data processing and word pro– cessing. Includes an overview of telecommunications, electronic mail, and other sophisticated communications systems. Prerequisites: 12-121 Introduction to Data Processing, 12-183 Typing, 12-187 Word Pro– cessing Concepts, 12-216 Business Communications. 12-289 Secretarial Internship 5 hours Practical business experience as a general secretary; individually de– signed to meet the interests of the student. Prerequisites: 12-183 Typing, 12-216 Business Communications, 12-282 Dictation and Transcription, 12-284 Secretarial Procedures, and permission of instructor.
