142 Science and Mathematics Larry Helmick, professor of chemistry and researcher al NASA's Lewis Research Center, demonstrates the department's liquid scintillator, the first ofits kind in the state of Ohio. Purpose The Department of Science and Mathematics is comprised of biology, chemistry, physics, and mathematics. This department seeks to: l. Acquaint students with the field of science. 2. Aid students in developing clear and orderly thinking processes through the use of the techniques of science and mathematics. 3. Help students appreciate the facts of creation as studied in the physical and natural sciences. 4. Prepare students for graduate study or for further profes– sional study in the health sciences. 5. Prepare secondary teachers of science with a Biblical per– spective of science. 6. Serve in other types of employment.
