Includes discussion ofprofes– sional ethics and factors which motivate and influence Christian nurses. Students learn nurs– ing skills essential to the facilitation of patient comfort, and how to integrate ~owledge from the Bible and the sciences into nursing. Two quarter course that must be taken m sequence. NSG-201 Theoretical and Technical Foundations ofNursing-A 10 hours An overview of conceptual and theoretical approaches to nursing practice, the ~urrent r~les of nurses in health care systems, and the impact of society and culture on nursmg practice. Includes development of technical skills basic to nursing and applying the i:i~sing prrn::e~s and adaptation. Prerequisites: NSG-213 Physical Assessment, NSG-315 Nutntion of Individuals and Families. NSG-213 Physical Assessment-SS III 3 hours Includes development of systematic approaches for obtaining a health history and perform– ing a physical examination on individuals throughout the lifespan. Prerequisites: BI0-216, 217 HumanAnatomy and Physiology. NSG-300 Baccalaureate Nursing Distinctives -A 3 hours Discussion of nursing process, nursing theory and the practice expectations of B.S.N.– educated nurses. Students are introduced to a Christian framework for nursing practice. Re– quired ofR.N.-B.S.N. and L.P.N. -B.S.N. students only. Permission ofinstructor. NSG-301 Maternal and Family Health Nursing- W, Sp 10 hours Provides the student with a basis for assessing mothers, newborns, and family members relative to physiological and psychological functioning in childbearing. Students interac~ to facilitate adaptation offamily members to changing roles. Rerequisites: NSG-201 Theoretical and Technical Foundations ofNursing. NSG-305 Nursing in Relationships - W, Sp 10 hours Relates normal intrapersonal and interpersonal relationships throughout the life span and the resources needed to maintain healthy communication. The impact of societal systems on individual, family, and/or community adaptation to stressors is evaluated in classroom and clinical setting. Prerequisites: NSG-201 Theoretical and Technical Foundations ofNursing. NSG-307, 309 Community Health Nursing- W, Sp 3 hours each Identifies health promotion and maintenance strategies for communities. Students assess responses of community members to events that maintain or threaten to disrupt their physi?– logical, psychological, sociological or spiritual balance. Two quarter course to be taken m sequence. Prerequisites: NSG-201 Theoretical and Technical Foundations ofNursing. NSG-311 Pharmacology -A 4 hours Emphasizes the pharmacokinetics, pharmacodynamics, major side effects and nursing im– plications ofmajor drug categories. Prerequisites: Prenursing sciences. NSG-315 Nutrition ofIndividuals and Families-Sp 3 hours Metabolism of food and nutrient utilization are described in a health balance frame– work. Modem modes of nutritional therapy for individuals of various ages and cultures are discussed. Prerequisite: CHEM-356 Biochemistry, concurrent registration, or permission of instructor. NSG-393 Research in Nursing- Sp 3 hours Application of the research process to clinical nursing problems. Includes discussi~n of the ethics of research and writing a research proposal. Prerequisites: NSG-201 Theoretical and Technical Foundations ofNursing. NSG-401, 403 Nursing Care of Children and Adults, I and II -A, W 22 hour Relates response patterns of children and adults to illness and the unique resources needed by each to restore health. NSG-405 Leaders as Managers in Clinical Nursing- Sp 10 hours Focuses on the observation and development ofleadership/managerial skills and advanced experience in the management ofpatient care for a group ofpatients or patients with multi~y~­ tem problems. Clinical involves working under the direction of faculty, nurse manager, clini– cal specialist, clinical supervisor or assistant director ofnursing in a clinical area ofthe student's choice. Prerequisites: NSG-403 Nursing Care of Children and Adults Il. NSG-440 through NSG-449 Special Topics in Nursing-A, W, Sp, Su 2-5 hours Selected topics of interest to faculty and students. NSG-480 Independent Study in Nursing-A, W, Sp, Su 1-4 hours Independent learning to secure an extensive background in a specializ~ area of_nurs~g. May be repeated once. Prerequisite: Signed contract between student and lilStructor m which work to be completed is described. NSG-483 Theory in Nursing- W 3 hours Borrowed theory and theories of nursing are studied to demonstrate various conceptual frameworks for nursing practice. Relationship between research and theory is discussed. Stu– dents are given practice in analysis and synthesis of theory. Prerequisite: NSG-393 Research in Nursing. NSG-495 Seminar in Nursing- Sp . 3 hours Critique of major professional issues in nursing and the political, economic, social, and religious factors that influence these issues. Prerequisites: NSG-403 Nursing Care of Children andAdults Il.
