Student Government Association The Student Government Association (SGA) is the representative as– sembly of the student body. SGA includes officers elected annually by the student body, two representatives from each class, residence hall represen– tatives, and a faculty advisor. The purpose of SGA is to assist in providing a well-rounded program of extra-curricular activities to promote loyalty to the school and to the Biblically-inspired stand and principles for which Cedarville College was created; to help establish and maintain an efficient and harmonious school atmosphere; and to recommend to the proper au– thorities or to take action deemed necessary for the welfare of the student as an individual or for the student body as a whole. Election to SGA provides an opportunity to exercise democratic leadership in student affairs. SGA is responsible for such fund-raising projects as the Student Body Project and the Student Missionary Project. SGA also coordinates chapel services each Friday. Music Groups Students with musical abilities may develop and utilize their talents in any one of a number of musical groups. Instrumentalists may participate in the Brass Ensemble, Chamber Orchestra, Handbell Choir, String Ensemble, Symphonic Band, Woodwind Ensemble, or Yellow Jacket Pep Band. Vocalists may sing with the Concert Chorale, Men's Chorus, Oratorio Cho– rus, or one of the many small ensembles directed by the Christian minis– tries department. Membership in any of these groups is typically determined through auditions which occur during CollegeWeek. Forensics Students with public speaking abilities may develop and demonstrate their communcation skills through intercollegiate speech competition on the College's Forensics Team. Competing at both the novice and varsity levels, students perform in any one of seven areas: prose, after-dinner speaking, extemporaneous speaking, dramatic duo, impromptu speaking, poetry, and informative speaking. Students interested in participating should contact the forensics coach for an audition. Student Life 25 Student Publications Students maintain primary responsibility for the publication of the col– lege yearbook, The Miracle, and the college newspaper, Cedars. A faculty– student committee provides direction and advice. Students interested in staff positions may contact the respective editors. Drama Each quarter, the Communication Arts Department presents a major theatrical production. fu recent years, the department has produced Wil– liam Shakespeare's Romeo and Juliet, Arthur Miller's The Crucible, and the musicals, My Fair Lady and The Pirates ofPenzance. Open to students from all majors, these experiences provide theatrical training for partici– pants and cultural enrichment for the entire college family. Students may earn academic credit for participating in college plays. Quarterlyproductions enable studentsfrom all majors to develop and apply their theatrical talents.
