42 Academic Information StudyAbroad Opportunities ARRIBA ARRIBA, Academic Residency and Research Internship for Baptists Abroad, is a work/study program sponsored by Grand Rapids Baptist Col– lege in cooperation with Baptist Mid-Missions. C~~ille s~dents _in any major may earn up to forty-five quarter hours credit m Spamsh, soc10logy, biology, religion, missions, cross-cultural studies, and general electives. Students involved in the program spend one year in the area of Cuzco, Peru, where classroom theory is integrated with practical application and experience in cultural studies, church planting, and alpine and rainforest studies, under the direction of experienced missionaries and college profes– sors. Students interested in the program should contact Dr. John Silvius for additional information. Travel Study Abroad Program Cedarville College sponsors a travel study abroad program in which students study language and culture for five weeks. This intensive study program allows students to experience the culture, learn about the country, and improve language skills through studying, staying with families, at– tending church services, and visiting historical sites. The program is open to all students regardless of their foreign language backgrounds. Students with no previous foreign language training ~an ful– fill the foreign language graduation requirement Students with foreign lan– guage backgrounds who have satisfied the graduation requirement in lan– guage can earn additional advanced credit in foreign language. Detailed information is available from the Department of Language and Literature. Overseas Study Programs in Israel Cedarville College c9operates with two institutes in Israel to provide an experience of study and travel. Through the Institute of Holy Land Studies, located in Jerusalem, a student can choose two programs: long-term, con– sisting of a quarter or a year abroad; and short-term, a 24-day program during June in which a student can earn six quarter hours, which count as two general education electives (Bible and history). Through the Baptists for Israel Institute, located in Galilee, a student can choose a work-study program for a summer, a quarter, or a year on an Israeli kibbutz. Informa– tion may be obtained from the chairman of the Department of Biblical Education. Study Abroad Program of Christian Colleges Students plamling intensified study in languages are encouraged to par– ticipate in SAPOCC sponsored by King's College, Briarcliff Manor, New York. Programs are offered in France, England, Germany, Spain, and the Dominican Republic. Cedarville cooperates in this program with other Christian colleges. SAPOCC is a unique experience for Christian young people because it provides them with Christian living, fellowship, and ~s tian service opportunities in a foreign country as well as an opportunity for academic development Interested students should contact the Language and Literature Department for details. High school students in the Summer Studies Program experience college life, earn college credit, and enjoy great times with new Christianfriends.
