EDUC-305 Junior Practicum hours A ten-week field experience required of secondary music education students. The practicum must be completed prior to student teaching and is on a Credit/No Credit basis. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program and Methods of Teaching Music. EDUC-310 ~n1rMJ>rvii~s·ri Field Ex1:>e1rJ1em:e A one-to-five credit placement in an elementary or secondary classroom. The assignment is designed to give a transfer student or a student repeating other field experience an analogous experience to those for the existing teacher education classes. (Fee: $50) EDUC-320 Children's Literature 3 hours A survey of the early history, major types, and modem trends of literature for children from preschool through grade eight. Social and personal value of literature is studied. EDUC-321 Philosophy of Education 3 hours A critical analysis of educational philosophies and their impact on Christian educational philosophy. Prerequisite: admission to Teacher Education Program, junior status, or permission of instructor. EDUC-331 in Children's Literature--A hours An overview current topics and trends in children's literature. Prerequisite: EDUC-320 Children's Literature. May be credited toward the language arts and literature concentration areas for elementary education. EDUC-350 in the Content Area 3 hours An introduction to dimensions, strategies, and programs for learning and teaching the reading process, including the nature of the reading process, assessment techniques, and instructional strategies to provide increased comprehension of the textual material of the disciplines represented in this class. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program. EDUC-352 Developmental hours Includes basic philosophies, practices, testing, and evaluation for reading disabilities and corrections; and materials and methods utilized in the teaching of reading in the secondary schools. Laboratory and field experiences are included. (Fee: $30) EDUC-380 Techniques 5 hours Experience in the use of formal and informal testing to diagnose various types of developmental and remedial reading problems. Emphasis upon individual assessment techniques in identification, testing, and causation ofreading difficulty. Experience in the techniques of tutoring pupils having reading problems. Develop– ment of instructional strategies of diagnostic teaching. Prerequisite: Admission to the Teacher Education Program. (Fee: $30) EDUC-400 Study in 1-5 hours Investigation contemporary topics in education through reading, writing, or creative projects. Prerequisite: 15 quarter hours in education. EDUC-440 5-12 hours Occasionally, unusual situations arise which entail special summer school student teaching for experienced teacne~rs, rei:iea1ted exrienenc:es, etc. 15-16 hours teacrulilg is done nearby schools. Opportunities for placement on the field are available. One quarter must be reserved. The seminar includes a study of contemporary topics in education. Prerequisite: All required education courses. (Fee: $120) Education of 2 hours Explores the implications with an emphasis on the definitions and characteristics of exceptionalities under this law. Mainstreaming are both discussed and observed. EDSP-260 the Church 3 hours An overview will be given of the characteristics of the mentally retarded and basic techniques for developing programs within churches and schools. Field/clinical experiences required. EDUC-455 Nature Needs of the Handicapped 4 hours Required four-hour course for state certification in special education. Causes and effects of specific learning and language disabilities, severe behavior disorders and mild developmental disabilities. How the church can minister to the families and students who have these problems. Study of teaching and strategies aor)roonate for these individuals. Mental Retardation uevelopmc::nt:ill Disabilities 3 hours An examination of the causes and effects of retardation and related developmental disabilities in home, church, school, and community settings. EDSP-224 Survey of Severe Emotional Disabilities 3 hours Overview of the theories,research, and practices related to the education of individuals with severe emotional disabilities. Emphasis on the causal factors, assessment, facets, and manage– ment of students exhibiting severe emotional disabilities. Prereq– uisite: Admission to Teacher Education Program or consent of instructor. · EDSP-225 of Learning Disabilities 3 hours An overview history, theories, and research of specific problems and remedial strategies with specific learning disabilities. Prerequisite: Admission to Teacher Education Program or consent of instructor.
