1997-1998 Academic Catalog
Philosophy Major The philosophy major is designed primarily for stu– dents anticipating graduate study in philosophy, theology, religion, or law. It serves to develop intellectual abilities important for life as a whole, beyond the knowledge and sldlls required for any particular profession. It cultivates the capacities and appetite for self-expression and reflection, exchange and debate of ideas, lifelong learn– ing, and dealing with problems for which there are no easy answers. Philosophy is applicable to any subject– matter and any human context, making it an ideal under– graduate major for those going on to specialized graduate work. Candidates for graduate study should consult graduate school catalogs to determine specific under– graduate requirements and adjust their programs at Cedarville College accordingly.
