1998-1999 Academic Catalog
Introduction AWord FromOur President, Dr. Paul Dixon Thank you for your interest in Cedarville College! This catalog is designed to answer many of the questions you may have about us. Please read it carefully. I also invite you to visit our campus to see for yourself why Cedarville College is such a popular college among committed Christian young people today. We would love to have you join us and prepare for your life's career and ministry in this dynamic learning environment. Christians have countless opportunities to serve Christ through business, medicine, law, engineering, education, the pastorate, missions, public office, counseling, and many other professions. At Cedarville, we strive to challenge you to be both a committed Christian and a competent professional so that you can make a difference in this world for Jesus Christ. I believe that you will be particularly impressed with the people who make up Cedarville College. Our faculty, staff, and administrators are here to teach you and to serve you in many different roles and also to encourage you to grow in Christ. They will demonstrate a sincere concern for your growth– intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. You will make lifelong friends during the time you are here, and you will find we really are family. Cedarville's education combines the personal attention of godly faculty with a high-tech environment that commands national attention. You will be able to logon to CedarNet, our campus-wide computer network, from any dormitory room and several labs. CedarNet will connect you to professors, other students and a multitude of software programs to enhance . your Cedarville education. It will also provide your connection to OhioLINK, a statewide system that provides direct borrow– ing from 51 college and university libraries and 25 million volumes. Your reach will extend around the world as you access computers in educational institutions, research facilities, and businesses through the Internet and World Wide Web. Our focus is on the continuing process of updating our physical plant to better serve the academic and auxiliary programs we offer to our students. We are renovating existing spaces and constructing new facilities as they are needed. In 1998, we retrofitted the building that once housed the College chapel into a Technology Resource Center. This facility, incorporates a number of technology-fitted classrooms, computer laboratories, and lounges for commuter students. Next on the drawing board is a new residence hall scheduled to open in the fall of 1999. A new Student Life Center, which will include space for an expanded College dining hall, a fully– equipped drama theatre, a snack shop, student lounges, and other enhanced student support facilities, is on the horizon. The Dixon Ministry Center, opened in late 1996, has become the center of campus life. The 120,000 square foot complex is the largest and most heavily used facility on the campus. The entire College family gathers daily in the 3,400-seat Jeremiah Chapel for stirring Bible messages and encouraging fellowship, singing, and prayer. The Ministry Center joins the 100,000 square foot Engineer– ing/Nursing/Science Center, opened in 1992, and the Centen~ nial Library, dedicated in 1987, as the most recent facility additions on campus. For 111 years Cedarville College has offered Christian higher education consistent with biblical truth. We stand ready to help prepare you to serve our unchanging Christ in a rapidly changing world-in this decade and on into the 21st century.
