2000-2001 Academic Catalog
Introduction A Word From Our President, Dr. Paul Dixon Thank you for your interest in Cedarville University! This catalog is designed to answer many of the questions you may have about us. Please read it carefully. I also invite you to visit our campus to see for yourself why Cedarville is such a popular university among committed Christian young people today. We would love to have you join us and prepare for your life's career and ministry in this dynamic learning environment. Christians have countless opportunities to serve Christ through business, medicine, law, engineering, education, the pastorate, missions, public office, counseling, and many other professions. At Cedarville, we strive to challenge you in pursuing a heart for God, forming a mind for Christ, making friends for life, and committing to service for eternity. We want you to be both a committed Christian and a competent professional so that you can make a difference in this world for Jesus Christ. I believe that you will be particularly impressed with the people who make up Cedarville University. Our faculty, staff, and administrators are here to teach you and to serve you in many different roles and also to encourage you to grow in Christ. They will demonstrate a sincere concern for your growth-intellectually, physically, emotionally, socially, and spiritually. You will find we really are family. A Cedarville education combines the personal attention of godly faculty with a high-tech environment that commands national attention. You will be able to log on to CedarNet, our campus-wide computer network, from any residence hall room or computer lab. CedarNet will connect you to profes– sors, other students, and a multitude of software programs to enhance your Cedarville education. It will also provide your connection to OhioLINK, a statewide system that provides direct borrowing of 31 million library items in 76 Ohio college and university libraries. Your reach will extend around the world as you access computers in educational institutions, research facilities, and businesses through the Internet and World Wide Web. Our focus is on the continuing process of updating our physical plant to better serve the academic and auxiliary programs we offer to our students. In the fall of 2000, we opened the new 151,000 square foot Student Life Center, providing students with an expanded dining hall, a fully– equipped drama theatre, a snack shop, student lounges, and much more. The Johnson, Green, St. Clair residence hall complex welcomed students in the fall of 1999. In 1998, the former chapel building was retrofitted into the Apple Tech– nology Resource Center, which houses computer laborato– ries, distance learning, and commuter student lounges. The Dixon Ministiy Center, opened in late 1996, is the center of campus life, with the entire University family gathering daily in its 3,400-seat Jeremiah Chapel for stirring Bible mes– sages, singing, and prayer. Other buildings include the 100,000 square foot Engineering/Nursing/Science Center, opened in 1992, and the Centennial Library, dedicated in 1987. Plans are unde1way for a new fitness and recreation facility. For 113 years Cedarville University has offered Christian higher education consistent with biblical trnth. We stand ready to help prepare you to serve our unchanging Christ into the next millennium.
