Nu Course Descriptions NSG-101 Introduction to Nursing I-A 1 hour An introduction to nursing education, practice, and research. Includes discussion of professional ethics and factors that motivate and influence Christian nurses. Students are introduced to the use of information management to provide culturally-sensitive care consistent with godly living. (Fee: $15) ' NSG-102 Introduction to Nursing II-Sp 2 hours F.ocuses on th~ ?upervised practice and validation of basic nursing skills. Prereq111s1te: NSG-101 lntroduction to Nursing. (Fee: $30) NSG-201 Theoretical and Technical Foundations of Nursing-A 10 hours Introduces the Department ofNursing's Christian framework and conceptual approach to nursing practice. The student will learn principles and develop technical skills in application of the nursing process, to provide care to individuals, families, and communities. ~ddresses basic i~11balance~ in the five dimensions ofphysiological, mtellectual, emotional, socrnl, and spiritual health. The histmy, development, and scope of the nursing role is discussed in the context of the emergence ofnursing as a profession within American culture. Prerequisite: NSG-213 Physical Assessment. (Fee: $50) NSG-213 Physical Assessment-Su 3 hours Focuses on dev~lo~1~ent of systematic approaches to assessing the health b~lance o~ 111d1v1du~ls. Includes elements of a health histmy, performmg physical exammation, normal physical response patterns of adults, and communicating findings in appropriate terminology. Prerequisite: admission to clinical nursing courses. Through d1scuss10n and analysis of contempora1y public health issues and ethics, the student acquires an appreciation for the political and legal forces that shape the health balance of individuals families and communities. NSG-309 Community Health Nursing II-Sp 5 hours . The ~tud~nt will. develop information management skills when 111vest1gatmg the mfluence of cultural factors on public health issues of selected P?Pulations. By identifying and extrapolating upon how these factors mfluence the health-related resources and demands of populatio1?s,, the student acquir~s l?eightened cultural sensitivity and an ~pp1:ec1atJon of the complexity mvolved in evaluating forces that mamtam or threaten the health balance of communities. Prerequisite: NSG-307 Community Health Nursing I. NSG-311 Pharmacology-A 5 hours Pl?armacokinetics, pharm~codynamics, and pharmacotherapeutics of ma3or drug categones are discussed as they are used to restore health bal~nce. Special emphasis is given to the ways in which pharmaco– logical agent~ 1:nay create new health demands. Nursing actions to prevent or m1111m1ze these demands are discussed. Prerequisite: NSG- 213 Phvsical Assess111ent. NSG-315 Nutrition of Individuals and Families-Sp 3 hom·s . St.u~y of normal n~1~rition and food consumption patterns of 111d1v1duals and fa1111ltes of all ages within various cultures. Metabo– lism of food and nutrient utilization is described in a health balance fi:amework. The use of nutrition as a resource to promote health is discussed. ' NSG-320 Cross-Cultural Nursing Internship-A,W,Sp,Su 2-5 hours Stud~nts actively participate in health~related activ.ities in a facility established to provide care for persons 111 cultures different from theirs. !he length of time involved in the internship may vaiy accordmg to the student needs. Prerequisite: NSG-201 Theoretical and Technical Foundations of'Nursing and permission ofinstructor.
