Page 281 2010–11 Undergraduate Catalog David G. Canine Award* The family of Rev. David Canine established this award to recognize his devotion to the ministry of the gospel. The recipient of this monetary award will demonstrate potential for successful ministry and exemplary fulfillment of Cedarville University requirements. Recipient must be a senior student with an acceptance letter to Dallas Theological Seminary and plans to attend as soon as possible (it is not required to be the next academic year). Grade average must be at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale. Average award amount is $500 with one award each year. Selection will be made by the chair and faculty of the Bible Department. Misty Carlson Memorial Scholarship This scholarship was established by John Carlson in loving memory of his wife Misty ‘02 who died suddenly in 2005. Recipients must be Social Work majors with financial need. Preference is given to students from single parent homes. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. The Director of Financial Aid selects the recipients. One scholarship is awarded per year ranging from $700–$1500. Centennial Library Scholarship Award in Library Science* This scholarship was established by the Centennial Library faculty in 1999, through the generosity of a 1997 graduate of Cedarville University, to encourage and actively support the next generation of library and information specialists, and especially to encourage those who will fill the future library faculty ranks of Christian colleges and universities. The scholarship assists seniors at Cedarville or a graduate who plans to begin a graduate program in Library and Information Science within two years of graduating from Cedarville. This cash award will be made directly to the institution in which the recipient is enrolled for graduate study in library and information science. Recipients of this award are selected by the Library faculty; Contact Lynn Brock, Dean of Library Services for application information. On average, one to two scholarships of approximately $500 is awarded each year. Tom and Sharon Chmura Scholarship Endowment This endowed scholarship was established in 2008 by Thomas (Tom) ‘78 and Sharon Chmura to assist students who are preparing to serve in the pastorate or missions. Recipients must be a junior or senior male student pursuing a degree in an academic major under the School of Biblical and Theological Studies, demonstrate financial need, and must be preparing for full time service in the pastorate or missions or must be planning to enroll in seminary following graduation. The Director of Financial Aid and the Dean of the School of Biblical and Theological Studies will select the recipients. Candidates must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. One junior and one senior student will be selected to receive this scholarship. Christian Ministry Scholarship Donald and Donna Williams established this scholarship in 1990 to assist full-time students with financial need who are majoring in Bible. Preference is given to students whose parents are not engaged in Christian ministry and who have cystic fibrosis or a learning disability. Recipients must maintain an above average GPA. Recipients must also show genuine dedication to the Lord’s work and possess adequate gifts to be successful in that pursuit. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. The Financial Aid Director selects the recipients. One to three scholarships are awarded per year ranging from $700–$1500. Christian Education Scholarship Charles and Anita Petersen established this scholarship in 2004 to assist students pursing a degree in Education with accumulated student loan debt, financial need, and a GPA of 3.3 or higher. Recipients must also desire to teach in Christian elementary or secondary institutions and demonstrate exceptional ability in the field of teaching. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. On average, two scholarships ranging from $2000–$3000 are awarded per year. Selections will be made by the Director of Financial Aid. Christian Service and Academic Excellence Award* Established by Stephen Brown ‘67 in 2006, this endowed scholarship assists students who demonstrate faithful Christian service and academic excellence. Recipients must be sophomore, junior, or senior students with a GPA of 3.3 or higher. The Vice President for Christian Ministries selects the recipients. No application is required. David H. and Edith W. Clark Scholarship This scholarship was established by David H. Clark in 1994 to assist students with financial need. The scholarship is awarded to a student who has completed one year at Cedarville and has a GPA of 2.5 or higher. Students may receive this scholarship for up to three years. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. The Financial Aid Director selects the recipients. About 20 scholarships of approximately $1,500–2,000 are awarded each year. Charles and Margaret Clevenger Piano Award* This award was established in 2001 by Dr. Charles Clevenger to honor his parents, Charles E. and Margaret Clevenger, whose love and encouragement have shaped him as an artist and educator. Recipients must be full- time junior or senior students who are pursuing a degree in music with piano as the principal instrument. Recipients must demonstrate exemplary musical stewardship and Christian character and have a 3.3 GPA or higher. Recipients of this award are selected by the chair of the Music Department in consultation with the department faculty. One scholarship of $1,000 is awarded per year. Completion of the FAFSA is recommended but not required. Compton/Knight Family Music Scholarship* This scholarship was established in 2005 by Harland and Pauline Knight to assist sophomore, junior, or senior students who demonstrate extraordinary potential to excel as a classroom teacher for vocal and/or or instrumental music. Recipients must be pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Music Education with plans to teach vocal or instrumental music, have completed at least one year of study at Cedarville, and have a cumulative GPA of 3.5 or higher. Preference will be given to students with financial need. Recipients are selected by the Financial Aid Director and music department faculty. One scholarship is awarded per year ranging from $1000–$2000. Completion of the FAFSA is recommended, but not required. Computer Science Missions Scholarship This scholarship was established in 2001 to assist a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior student who is majoring in computer science and who served on a missions trip or internship during the previous summer break. The missions trip or internship may be sponsored by the University or another Christian organization. This scholarship is intended to offset a portion of the lost wages a student experiences because he or she served on a missions trip. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need, but it will not be required. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. The computer science faculty, in consultation with the Financial Aid office, select the recipient. The Computer Science Scholarship Endowment Established by Cedarville University in 2005 and funded by friends of the University, this scholarship assists students who are pursuing a bachelor’s degree in Computer Science. Recipients will be selected by the Computer Science Faculty, subject to the approval of the Department of Engineering Chair. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. Conklin Endowed Scholarship This endowed scholarship was established in 2009 by Jeffrey Conklin ‘79, executor of the estate of Alice Conklin, to provide financial assistance to student athletes. Recipients must be sophomores, juniors or seniors pursuing a bachelor’s degree, must be an active participant in the University’s inter-varsity athletic program, and must demonstrate financial need. The Director of Financial Aid and the Athletic Director will select the recipients. Candidates must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. Typically, one scholarship is awarded each year of $1,500. Robert and Janet Conway Nursing Award* This annually funded scholarship was established in 2008 by Robert and Janet Conway to recognize excellence in nursing and assist students with financial need. Recipients must be seniors who are pursuing a degree in nursing, have at least one year of study remaining in their program, demonstrate financial need, have a cumulative grade average of 3.5 or higher on a 4.0 scale and demonstrate excellence in clinical practice. The Department of Nursing faculty and the Director of Financial Aid select the recipients. Candidates must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. An average of one scholarship is awarded each year of $1,500. Criminal Justice Scholarship This scholarship was established by Jeff and Rebecca Cone ‘94 in 1995 to assist students pursuing a career in law enforcement. The scholarship is awarded to a senior criminal justice major who is involved in Christian service and demonstrates exemplary Christian character and financial need. Students must maintain a 2.5 GPA or higher. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship.
