President’s International Scholarship Established by Cedarville University in 2007 to recruit and retain qualified international students who have financial need. Recipients must be eligible to hold an F-1 student visa and must not be a U.S. citizen. The scholarship may be offered to a prospective student based on acceptance to the University to facilitate the filing of the I-20 documents. Awards will be finalized when recipient obtains the F-1 student visa and enrolls at the University. The University President, VP of Enrollment Management and Director of Financial Aid will select the recipients. Donna Purple Memorial Award in Education* This award was established in 2001 by the friends and family of Donna Purple to honor her memory and to assist students preparing for a career in education. The recipient must be a full-time junior or senior student pursuing a degree in education, preferably middle childhood education, with a minimum GPA of 3.3. Preference will be given to students who demonstrate financial need and who are struggling with or who have overcome severe illness. Recipients of this award are selected by the Education Department faculty, in consultation with the Director of Financial Aid. One scholarship of approximately $1,000 is awarded per year. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. Marlin Rayburn Award* Ethel Jeremiah established this scholarship in 1994 in loving memory of Ethel’s late husband, Marlin Rayburn. Marlin taught homiletics at Cedarville for seventeen years. This scholarship assists students who have demonstrated excellence in homiletics and have a 3.0 GPA or higher. Recipients are selected by departmental faculty; no application is necessary. One scholarship is awarded per year. Derek Richardson Memorial Scholarship Fund Kendall and Susan Richardson established this scholarship in memorial to their son, Derek Richardson, who died tragically in an auto accident in 2005 while enrolled at the University as a sophomore. This scholarship assists sophomore students who are enrolled in the University ROTC program. Recipients must have the attitude, aptitude and character to succeed as an Air Force officer. Recipients selected should reflect the character of Cadet Derek Richardson, succeeding physically, academically, and be more concerned for the well being of others than themselves. Recipients must have a record of public/social service both within and outside the Air Force ROTC program. The Air Force ROTC detachment commander and the Cedarville ROTC liaison select the recipients. One scholarship is awarded per year ranging from $1000–$1300. Don and Peg Rickard MK Scholarship This scholarship was established by the Student Government Association in 2000 to honor Don and Peg Rickard upon his retirement as Vice President of Student Services. The recipient must be a full-time freshman with financial need and must be a child of missionaries who serve in the foreign mission field. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. The Financial Aid Director, SGA President, and Vice President of Student Services selects the recipient. One award is given per year. Rietveld Fine Arts Award* Established by Mr. And Mrs. Floyd Rietveld in 1982, this scholarship assists a junior or senior who demonstrates consistent and outstanding ability and development in the area of studio art. Criteria for the selection include classroom excellence, performance abilities, and leadership qualities. Recipient must also show evidence of a life dedicated to serving and honoring the Lord Jesus Christ. Recipients of this award are selected by the Chair of the Music, Art and Worship Department. One scholarship is awarded annually ranging from $600–$2000. Rife Scholarship Ralph ‘22 and Louise Rife established this scholarship in 1986 to assist students with financially need. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. The Financial Aid Director selects the recipients. Two scholarships are awarded annually. Roloff Incentive Award* This scholarship, established in 1999 by Dr. Marston Val Roloff ‘65, assists a full-time biology major who has completed at least one year at Cedarville University. The recipient shall demonstrate financial need, be actively involved in community service or other highly desirable leadership roles, and maintain a 3.0 GPA or higher. Preference shall be given to children and other descendants of Cedarville University graduates. An application is required. Recipients of this award are selected by the Biology Department faculty and the Director of Financial Aid. One scholarship is awarded per year ranging from $1000–$2000. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. Ross-Shire Foundation Scholarship This annually funded scholarship was established in 2009 by James and Elaine Ross to assist Canadian and other international students. Recipients must be students pursuing a bachelor’s degree in any academic program and must demonstrate financial need. Preference will be given to Canadian citizens with secondary preference given to citizens of other nations. Students who hold United States citizenship will not qualify. Preference will also be given to students who have a cumulative grade average of 3.0 or higher on a 4.0 scale. The Director of Financial Aid will select the recipients. An average of three scholarships are awarded each year ranging from $1,000 to $3,500. Salt and Light Scholarship* Established by Lawrence ‘81 and Deborah ‘80 Seawell in 2005, this endowed scholarship assists students pursuing a bachelor’s degree under the Department of Business Administration or the Department of Communication Arts. Recipients must have completed at least one year at the University and have a cumulative GPA of 3.3. Recipients must exhibit an exceptional commitment to integration of Biblical thought and practice into their academic discipline. Students must complete an essay application explaining how they plan to integrate Biblical thought and practice into their academic discipline and career. Completion of the FAFSA is recommended but not required. The Business Administration faculty and Communication Arts faculty will select the recipients. Two to four scholarships are awarded per year ranging from $2000–$3000. Jean Scott Memorial Scholarship O.B. and Jean Scott established this scholarship in 1982 to assist continuing students with a 2.5 GPA or higher intending to be missionaries. Secondary consideration is given to students entering full-time Christian service. Students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. The Director of Financial Aid selects the recipients. One scholarship is awarded annually ranging from $500–$1000. Mike and Amy Shane Scholarship Mike and Amy Shane established this scholarship in 2001 to assist the following full-time students who are members in good standing at Calvary Bible Church in Bakersfield, California. Citizens of the People’s Republic of China may also be considered for assistance. If U.S. citizens, students should submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. Citizens of the People’s Republic of China should contact the Director of Financial Aid for further information. Selection will be made by the Director of Financial Aid. Approximately two to five scholarships awarded each year ranging from $6000–$15000. Edward Shiraki Memorial Scholarship for Public Service* This annually funded scholarship was established in 2009 by Matthew Shiraki ‘06 to inspire students to enter the worthy cause of Public Service. Recipients must be junior or senior students, have at least one year remaining in their program, demonstrate financial need, must have a cumulative grade average of 3.3 or higher on a 4.0 scale, and must be actively involved in service on and/or off-campus and plan to enter civil/ public service. Preference will be given to students pursuing a degree in History and Government. The Director of Financial Aid and Chair of the History and Government Department, in consultation with faculty of the Department of History and Government, will annually select the recipients. Candidates must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) if interested in this scholarship. An average of one scholarship is awarded each year of $1,500. Jane Adams Smith Memorial Scholarship* Established by Benjamin Smith (‘86) in loving memorial to his wife, Jane Adams Smith (‘84), this scholarship assists students under the Department of Communication Arts and the Department of Psychology. Recipients must demonstrate financial need and must have completed at least one year at Cedarville. Recipient selection will be made by the Department Chairs and Financial Aid Director. Candidates must complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA). Soccer Alumni Fund John ‘72 and Connie ‘71 Rooke established this scholarship to assist full-time students who demonstrate talent and ability in soccer. The recipient must be on the soccer team for CU, and the Cedarville University soccer coach selects the recipients. One to two scholarships are awarded per year ranging from $1000–$4000. James and Lorna Spencer Scholarship James and Lorna Spencer established this scholarship in 1988 to assist full-time students with demonstrated financial need.
